hey guys i have a quick question. my alternator is giving out and i want a replacment. im thinking about getting the 90amp but had a few questions. would that cause any kind of battery overcharge issues and also would i have to do any kind of mods to make it work? like change the fuse out or anything?

i run gauges and safc and supra fuel pump so i want a little extra juice. do i have to switch out the fuse?

Yeap, Just install the 90amp in, and leave everything else the same..

That works, but I'd look at replacing the B+ cable from the alternator to the fuse and adding a ground to the alternator while your at it. The factory wiring is marginal and the factory ground is through the mounting bracket to the block which over time gets corroded and increases the resistance.

If you don't have a sound system the 90A alternator helps the most in the winter, at night, when you have the headlights on, the heater and rear defroster going full, and the wipers on. The stock alternator just can't keep up, don't even think of turning on the turn signals.

So i got the new alternator in and now my coolant, battery and brake dashboard light is on dimly. Any ideas?

What's the voltage at the alternator when running?

Check your grounds, Clean them all good, and make sure you have good contact from battery terminal, to firewall, transmission, and make sure all the wires are good,,,

A missed connection (ground) can do exactly what you are experiencing.

Check as well, your ALT Fuse, and check for voltage as stated before..

I know from a fact with the 90amp alternator its not plug and play, you will have to change the plug that fits on the back of the alternator itself. I found out after ordering a 90amp and later found out the 75amp and 90amp were different, i had to send it back and order a stock 75 amp alternator.

First off you are replying to a 2 year old thread, 2nd off, you are wrong about the plug. If you have a 1g and but a 6th generation galant alternator it will bolt on and hook up just like stock. If you have a 2g and buy a 7th generation galant alternator than it will bolt up and it will hook up like stock. I know this for a fact because i have actually installed them on 1g's and 2g's.

Ok so in that case i was sold the wrong alternator. I needed one from a 7th gen galant 90 amp alternator, when i bought mines they advertised it as two types for a 2g which is the 70amp or a 90amp but i got the 90amp which the plug was different. So thanks for clearing that up.
