Thank you sorry for the newbie post, i did eventually find out how to select them for capture and add them to display. Thanks for the helpful links and the awesome software just another reason i love this forum

I have to start this off by saying I can't thank You (Calan) enough for your contributions here. I can't begin to imagine the time you spent on the math for this program to work, let alone making the interface user friendly.

My question probably has a simple solution, but I have to ask. When I try to import a log to the log chart page, none of my log files show up in my folder. I see that it searches for log files only, and they are saved as such. What am I doing wrong here?

edit: Ah I got it. I remembered from one of the videos to "export" the log, rather than just save it.

Really great program if only i could use it. Ive tried 100 different downloads of office 2003 and nothing but virus and trojans. anyone know a reliable download source?

I would does this work on the 2g Ecu. I am having mine sent to ECM link to do the conversion on it. After it gets done will it have this linktools on it?

I found a reliable torrent a while back of 2003 and 2007. Sadly, the file is too large to send in an email. PM me so we can keep this thread on topic and maybe we can find a solution.

Linktools and ECMlink are NOT the same program. ECMlink is the software that Tom and Dave have developed so that you can tune your car by changing the values inside the ECU with a laptop.

Linktools is a product that Calan (Craig) has taken the liberty to produce. His totally free product is there to complement ECMlink's tuning capabilities using Speed Density (SD).

To answer your question, No linktools will not be on your ECU or the disk that they may send you. You may want to read the first post of this thread and watch the videos that Calan has produced to answer a lot of these questions. Hope that clears it up.

So I keep getting an error of "Wideband not found in log" when I try to load my file. Any ideas why that might be? The Wideband value is clearly logged and displayed prior to export from ECMLink......

Thanks.

What is the name of the logged value in link? It should be named "Wideband" to properly import to LinkTools.

Mine was "WIDEBAND" in all caps, so apparently that throws it off. Now it started to load and threw another error at me:

Run-time error

Method 'ScaleType' of object 'Axis' failed

WTF?

I had a Wideband and MAP error at separate times (mine were called LC1WB and Omni4Bar respectively).

What seemed to do the trick was changing the settings on the home page, and then save link tools just as you would save any file (of course before loading any logs). Not saving the file would lead to loading errors.

Also make sure you select the line so that it is view-able in ecmlink graph window, then hit ctrl+A for select all (makes all lines show up, extraneous data is ignored in linktools I think). Then select your data region and export.

Hey guys, just want to thank Calan! and one quick question. I have LT 5.2 and excel 2003 and when I open LT I cant click on the buttons to import log, ect. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

edit: Sorry I figured it out! Went and re downloaded LT and it works perfect! Thanks again!!

Latest version (5.4) has been uploaded. Download link in first post.

Change Log:

Fixed some over-lapping labels and a couple of minor internal issues, and added one GUI enhancement.

In certain situations, the cursor position in the log chart would not be selected properly when the mouse was clicked. There are now entries on the right-click context menu that let you calibrate the mouse to the window.

With a log displayed in the chart, position the mouse cursor on the far left edge the grid, right-click and select "Set mouse cursor left". Do the same for the right side (using "Set mouse cursor right"), and the mouse should now be calibrated to whatever size the grid window is set to. The positioned log pointer (cursor) should now be synced with the mouse position on the chart.

Just in time for my arrival back :applause:. The car will be outfitted with some new goodies, so I can assure you this version will receive a good workout in the next few months.

After doing a lot of testing for some upcoming LT functionality, I was reminded of how important it is to compensate for the weight of fuel (and anything else for that matter) in any logs that you want to use for HP and/or torque comparisons. I found several cases where peak and average HP varied by up to 3% (476hp vs. 490hp peak for example), based solely on an an empty tank vs. a full one.

The new version of LT will automatically detect the amount of fuel from the file name (assuming you name the log a certain way), and then adjust the imported HP and torque numbers to compensate for it. In the mean time, be sure that the weight you enter in the HP properties is as accurate and consistent as possible. Also be sure to always use the same input and output smoothing, and verify the RPM/speed values.

I really wish there was a way to get Excel-compatible functionality that allows this to work, without having to either (1) pay for MS Office, (2) resort to obtaining MS Office through "other channels." Neither of which interests me in the least, because (1) I don't use MS Office stuff except at work, and (2) no.

...but (3) it's worth it.

MS Office 2003 costs $30 off of Amazon and Craig offers LinkTools for free, essentially you're paying $30 for a tool that, if used properly, can tune a car on speed density.

I'm going to have to look hard to find it that cheap up here in Can"screw consumers in the ass"ada. We get the short end of the stick.

Sorry to hear people are abusing your work and selling it as their own, if that's what you're saying. Any plans to make it available as a paid version? I thought the ECMLink guys would've bought you out awhile ago and put it in a new release.

Since everyone is asking, I'll try to explain this just once, as honestly and tactfully as I can.

Recently I've had people with the nerve to contact me and ask for updates so "they can more easily tune peoples cars with it". So called "expert tuners" are using my software to calibrate people's SD table in 3 minutes and pocketing $100 or more, and yet they don't have the decency to send $2 my way to say thanks. Sorry, but I'm done playing that game.

To those of you that will post copies of it for download (and probably try to sell it)....just remember that it is still intellectual property that I own, and it's a tight community; distribute it at your own risk. ;) (And for the honest person that lets me know of someone who is distributing it without permission, you won't be forgotten.)

I hope nobody takes this personally...it's just something I've decided that needs to be done. Until I figure out what I'm going to do with LinkTools publicly (if anything), the newest version and all future updates will be privately confined to a very small group of people. That plan may very well change, but for now it is what it is.
