Just recently I'm having a bad vibration when I put the car in reverse and start to let out of the clutch. It's really bad the motor shakes as well while it's in reverse. I checked one of the motor mounts tightened them up as much as I could and still have the same problem. I have prothane mounts, the car is a gst. This just started happening around a day ago, I have a stock clutch as well. What could cause this issue?

Check ALL of your bellhousing bolts. I've been down this road with prothane mounts and have experienced the exact same symptoms you are. There is a good chance some bolts have vibrated loose.

I'll check those out. What would I need to do to gain access to those bolts? And I'll also try the roll test but it doesn't do it whole accelerating. But I do here a whirring noise on the passenger side it's hard to hear though but wasn't their before all of this started.

So I found out that one of the roll mounts was loose, tightened it and it still does the same thing to about the same degree. The engine is still shaking.[DOUBLEPOST=1407961172][/DOUBLEPOST]Still only two replies? Can I get some help on this please

Is there some kind of way you can get a friend to video your engine while you put it in reverse that will help me a lot in determining what may be the culprit. The only thing I can think of that would cause this is the clutch springs may be damaged. How many miles on the clutch and what brand is it?

If it were a spring don't you guys think it would do this in all gears? If it's reverse only I see two possibilities. Bad mounts (might not show up in other gears because torque is in another direction) or something wrong with the reverse in the transmission. You can open the transmission end case and inspect. Do you have a lot of movement in the shifter in 5th gear when you get on and off the gas. If you do the 5th/reverse hub retaining nut is loose and you have a ticking time bomb.

whirring noise in passenger side.....you still think it's a clutch spring? At least drain the fluid and take the cover off.

He says he checked the mounts. The next possible thing that would cause the issues are springs. Yes they will make noise if one has come completely out of the clutch hub. And no it will not do it in all gears only when going from a stop. First gear may do it but not a guarantee. Just my .$02

Removing the case, is this possible without removing the transmission or anything significant?[DOUBLEPOST=1408022053][/DOUBLEPOST]It does it slightly in first, but like I said earlier when I completely let off the clutch the problem stops. But it's difficult to back up slowly without the engine wanting to rock itself out of the bay from riding the clutch.

You dont have to remove the case to determine if the transmission has internal issues. Drain the fluid first and see what color the fluid is if its grey then you have internal issues if its not then its the clutch.[DOUBLEPOST=1408022192][/DOUBLEPOST]

Okay my bet stands its a spring issue.

Back from the dead finally had some time to drop the transmission to see what was going on and this is what I found. From my perspective the clutch looks fine, but I'm thinking part if not all of my problems resulted from a warped flywheel (can anyone confirm this) I found small fractures throughout the flywheel which probably resulted from excessive heat. Can any wiseman confirm that this could cause the issues that I was having? I just don't want to put this trans back in and I'm still left with the same problem as before.

Is that a crack in the Pressure Plate? Does it go all the way thru? If so that's what I bet on is the issue.

No sir that wasn't a Crack but I examined other areas of the clutch and flywheel and didn't swe any cracks starting to form. Other than the small ones that I already mentioned in the flywheel

Guess we can finally mark this as solved. Plucked the poly insert out to find the mount in the back to be torn to hell. What made me pluck them out was that I could wiggle the mount side to side really easily. Which would translate to the vibration cause the mount wasn't doing its job. Pissed that I took the entire Trans out to find this but the stock clutch needed to go anyway so I could upgrade eventually it wouldn't have held the 20g. And going to replace the flywheel and bolts and fork while I'm at it. Thanks for all you guys' help.

Just make sure that you have all the bell housing bolts to put back in. Everyone forgets to put the one going from the block to the trans back in. All the others go from the trans to the block, but if you're missing the one I'm talking about, the application force on the pressure plate will be off-plane and uneven, contributing to chattering issues as well as premature mount and clutch failure. You can check the threads on here about it. That bolt is special, and not just because its mom thinks so....
