Bought a 2G with 72k miles about a week ago, dropped like 500 on an echaust, 100 on plugs and wires, 125 on an intake. Obviously the owner before me didn't take care of it because the plugs and wires were original and the fluids have never been flushed. I flushed the auto tranny today hoping I wasnt to late to save it, but it has started slipping hard, and not accelerating while in gear. There is rusting on the rear pinch welds, brakes need to be done, a severe enough evap leak near the charcoal canister to smell like gas when the car is idling, the alternator needs to be replaced, I could go on. I payed 4600 for the car, and am protected by the Mass state lemon law. Should I cut my losses and bring the car back, or maybe try to work out a partial refund with the guy? Anyone have similar experiences buying a 2G that was not maintained at all?

what engine is it is it fwd or awd turbo? if its a awd turbo 2g $4600 is worth it with that low mileage if they is no rust on it you can not find one for less these cars have gone up in price an takes a least 6k for a nice awd turbo

If slight rust on the pinch welds is all you are dealing with body-wise, keep it, sink a little bit of money, or a ton, and consider yourself lucky. 2g's rust like it is their job.

^^^ +1. My 1997 TSi is so bad it leaves a brown ring around it when you close the doors. The only thing I would worry about is the transmission. A replacement isn't usually cost effective and unless you have the experience and tools then rebuilding one isn't an option either. Theres always a 5-spd swap as a possibility. The reason its slipping now is most likely because the fluid you took out was original and the only thing making the clutches grab was the clutch material that was suspended in the fluid. If you rebuild it though you're looking at new clutches and seals, new torque converter, new steels, I would put new solenoid in it, etc. These weren't the strongest tranny by any means. You may have almost as much as a swap tied up in it. Also, being from Taxachusetts I am pretty sure you can go on mass.gov/rmv and print out a word for word copy of the lemon law. The last time I dealt with an issue like this was with my friends car and I found out there is an age and mileage loophole. Even if the mileage was low, I thought fifteen years was the max age. Also, I think to qualify you need to have either three separate major systems defunct or three consecutive instances of a single major system go bad. A major system is defined as a system of the car that, if non-operational, would be detrimental to the ability of safely and dependibly operating the vehicle on a daily basis. This was six or so years ago, so I would check to see what has changed....

bone stock 99 gsx keep it its worth that even if you got to replace trans get a shep trans or dogbox or somthing i paid 7k for mine

What fluid did you put in it? Kind of sounds like you put the universal dex fluid in it. As for the other problems, welcome to buying used cars. That is just how it goes. It is for the most part your job to check these things over before buying it.

I would drain that out and put some atf+4 in it. If it was working fine before but not afterwards than i would say that the fluid you used is the cause.
