Hey guys. I'm new to cars as a whole, let alone DSM. I bought a 98 eclipse gs-t spyder with 111k and its been nothing but a headach. Not knowing anything about cars, I bought it with a blown turbo. I just got it replaced and got ripped off with that too. $1400 for a stock turbo rebuild and a little work! To top it off its still came back messed up. It used to drive fine unless I really gave it some gas. Right around 5k rpm it would just stop climbing and and I guess miss fire really bad. I changed my valve seals and spark plugs witch were covered in oil. I thought it would fix it after a little driving around, but nothings happened except its worse. Now i really have to give it some gas just to get it moving and it feels like it just wants to fall apart. I think oil is back on the plugs. I also have a cracked valve cover. I messed up by driving it anyway but stopped when it got bad. I know I'm stupid. So I need your help, any opinions on what's going on?

The crack in valve cover would cause the oil on plugs which could cause the misfire. Begin with the basic maintenance changing fluids, plugs and wires, cracked gaskets or just worn and cracked hoses. Wow did that 1400 hurt? Could have bought a complete upgrade system for that price. Oh and welcome to dsms a lot more headaches but even more joy.

Also about the oil, the car isn't smoking and the engine light came on when the miss fire or whatever it is got terrible. Yeah that 1400 did hurt a lot. I wanted to figure out my options and try to figure this out as cheap as I can.

1400 for a rebuild? Ouch. A manifold + stock turbo is like $150-$200 if you look around enough.

There's some people selling valve covers in the classifieds, that's your best bet or a local junkyard.

You probably want to run a compression test also, while you're changing that cover + gasket.

welcome to the dsm paradox. fun to drive and fairly easy to work on, but you need to keep up on it. best bet is to start a maintenance schedule from scratch ie boost leak test, plugs/ wires/ belts/ fluids and so on. if you've got the patience shop around when doing your upgrades. caution...dsm fever is hard to shake.

I've got a valve cover if u need it. Spark plug cover bolt holes are broken but otherwise is good. Wrinkle black. I can't use it cause I'm going coil on plug. Iirc it has a gasket and plug tube seals[DOUBLEPOST=1410178917][/DOUBLEPOST]
