So I swapped out a stock 1G BOV to a crushed 1G BOV over the weekend. The whining noise is much more noticeable now. At first I thought it was my BOV. After playing with the throttle I realized the noise was coming from the air filter and not my BOV.

I've never heard or seen this on any other cars.

Here's a quick run down of what I have as far as mods that I think would be relevant.

1G motor
2G VRSF intercooler kit
No name brand hard intake pipe recirculate to BOV.
Turbonetics 50 trim turbo kit with exhaust manifold and external wastegate
Full 3 inch Megan TBE
Both a 1G OEM stock and 1G crushed BOV. My stock one made similar whining noises but it was not as noticeable.

Should I be worried? Ideas?

It is without a doubt the BOV. What BOV are you running? Greddy or greddy variant? It is leaking around <0psi. Verify via a BLT that it does not leak during positive pressure (ideally any pressure since that would effect fuel economy/idle etc...

Sometimes the O-ring that seals the valve pops off (happened on my PR greddy style (knockoff) BOV). It will also happen to the nice rebuilt ones if you do not adjust the springs properly (tight enough).

If you don't have a greddy one, and wish to upgrade, Seriously consider a Tial. They don't screw up.

When I was running the 1g stocker bov I got the same noise and actually while driving could make the noise be constant at lower rpms. I at first thought it was something electrical because it sounded almost like a beeping noise but after searching around found it to be a common thing with the 1g bov.
