Hey guys I got a 95 GST just took it for a drive and when it hits 50 on the highway it starts violently shaking like it's pretty violent you naturally want to put on the hazards and slow down when I go 45 it doesn't shake at all as it says in the title the motor mounts (all of them are new)

About the car:

95 GST Manual 152K miles

The car is stock under than a 1G CAS, K&N air filter and greddy BOV.

I was told it could be my axles but I wanted some feedback from the DMS community.

Thanks guys

It could be a tire like someone suggested. It's hard to see if you don't notice, on the thread you'll see sort of like a ball or bubble. All different sizes, could be small or big. Wouldn't hurt to check.

Why would you think "motor mounts"? Think tire, alignment or suspension.

Bet ya got a wheel way out of balance or tire busted. Tire is most likely culprit. I can remember an ice storm we had some years ago. It thawed then refroze and left a big chunk of ice on the inner bottom wheel. Solid enough to hold on til highway speeds. Yea....LOL, felt like the car was going to shake itself apart. Mud will do it too but this isnt a truck and unless you went off roading in the dsm lately i think we can rule that out!

If you had the tires off, check that the lugs are tightened. Check your air pressure. Check your tire tires for any bulges. Make sure all suspension components are tight. The only issues with your motor mounts would be clunking on acceleration/deceleration if you forgot a sleeve in one of them upon installation.

I bet you had a shop install the motor mounts didn't you? It seems odd to me cause my coworker just had the mounts on his TL replaced and he's getting vibration around the same speeds. I'll tell you what I told him. 99% chance it's a balancing issue in the wheels. Occassionally it is axles but I'd go with the easy route first before pulling axles. And don't go back to the shop that did your mounts. I have a feeling this is how places get you to come back.

Like everyone is saying check the tire/wheels. Heck if you have to rotate the tires & see if it changes to the rear.
Axles usually when bad cause vibrations only under power applied to the drivetrain. So keep that in mind if the tires check out.

I would suspect tires especially if the vehicle sat for a while. The tires can look brand new but developed flat spots which will cause exactly what you are desribing.

Yea I agree with the tires for a starting point if not that then I think I would jack it up and check to see if you have any play coming from the hubs. My montero use to have a shake at lower speeds like that because of the hubs being worn out.

Got a front tire rim that is kinda bent to say the least so what I'm going to do is take the wheels off my 420a and put them on my GST and see if that helps, if not I'll reply back. Thanks everyone for all the replies it's greatly appreciated!

i had the same problem on my last dsm and all it was, was a drive axel, but definetly wouldnt put it past an unbalanced tire, should be a cheap easy fix. good luck
