After 1 year as a DSMer I decided to create a Journal to document whats going on where I started and where I am going with my Build. I came to this thought of I want to build a turbocharged car last year. This is the first car I've have built performance wise. Up until this point I had considered myself a handy guy that flew out the window and we began to relearn wrenching .
However I purchased a 95 TSI with 105k on the dash and allegedly all types of great parts.An FMIC ,an Evo 3 turbo and manifold , a boost controller, an aluminum fluidyne radiator and 3 inch exhaust a walbro 190 with a blown clutch.
I knew nothing about the cars and what to look for . I drove 5 hours to Columbus to get the car and over paid for it, but It was my car ill fix it blah blah blah. I got the car home, me and my friends began to tear into the car.
the Intercooler that was so great. was an eBay core no biggy,
plumbed together with radiator hose and clamps and exhaust pipe tubing(not good)
The turbo was a china turbo that was trashed and my car blew oil constantly threw my exhaust i was a smoke screen. Fed be a cross threaded stainless steel brake line. The manifold had a crack
MY power steering pump was leaking on my alternator which shortly blew after ward.
The clutch was also from China and had and exploded and 2nd gear was gone on my transmission.
so roughly after 1500 dollars my car was running on top of what i paid.
I found a local honest guy parting out a few cars and I got my intercooler kit and paid 300 for everything upper pipes lower pipes and a blowoff valve and get this it was authentic GREDDY stuff .
Long story short I drove the car I crashed on my way to work.. light fender damage. I went to replace my fender and headlight only to find out. My firewall had been patched with fiberglass. I begin to search for a shell while i commuted in the car.
After intermittent vac leaks and my coil packs shorting out on my 30 mile drive to work I took it off the road until i could give it the maintenance and money the project would need and it would function properly. I begin to put together my build sheet. I thought Id rebuild the entire motor and find a shell.
Every one here should know the motor budget quickly hit 3k looking for the best parts. So I began to save up.
As an programmer I am frequently on a computer . I would troll the classifieds here for hours in my free time and craigslist for parts and shells claz.org is a good one it combines Cl from all over into one pool FYI.
after 9 months I found myself a parts car with a ton of performance parts and accessories with mint interior.
the bad it had been in a front end accident. I bought it anyway i was feeling lucky. It had many parts according to the add when I went to to look at it , it did some where damaged but 90 percent of the car was salvageable with exception to the strut towers.
Then I found a clean gutted shell. So now I have 3 cars I must combine into one and become Voltron of DSMs . I am optimistically shooting at 400AWHP this summer and 500AWHP next summer . I am close to beginning to dismantling the cars and putting them together. I am waiting to pick up my shell. I will be bring many pictures the entire way through
