Thjis is a seriously impressive build. Wow man. How deep in the pockets you have to dig? 20? 25k? These cars are the "poor mans race car"..... Ive found thats not true at all HA! Stuff really gets pricey but your build is worth every penny. Great plans and great work. Like the approach you took.

All great builds come from people who know how to effectively "compartmentalize" the task(s) at hand. Looking at the whole thing is hard to not do. you sir, seem to have an incredible attention to detail and ability to focus on the task at hand/not get overwhelmed.

Thanks! I've been digging pretty far, right now I think the cost is up around 17k-20k in total and as you can see I'm still short a few things (I/C, Speed Density, SMIM...) but it's coming along nicely. You're definitely right, not a poor man's car. Again thank you for the appreciation of the build - I'm hoping to have built something a bit different from everyone else that will truly turn heads but then give me that accomplishment of "I created that." Again, thanks good sir!
 
So I've decided to get rid of the MFI relay all together, I'll explain it once I've completely compiled all the information. But I'm still keeping it as a plan B, just in case my new idea falls through. The only downside to the new idea is if left alone after leaving it "on" it'll kill the battery, as you may have guess I'm putting a switch system in the car to allow for easier troubleshooting - removes the chance of the ECU (being the EMS Series II - fully customizable), relays controlled by the ECU, and anything "in-between" to be narrowed out leaving basically one relay, a switch, easily accessible fuse(s), and wiring to troubleshoot with, and of course the item being powered. Again I'll post what it'll look like once I get a response back from Wire Care on a connector solution - trying to avoid two separate connectors and stick with only one.
 
Change of plans, instead of jam nut type connectors at the firewall, as mentioned earlier in this thread I'll be using a Deutsch connector from Wirecare (LADD Distributed) that has 80 size 16, 16 size 12, 4 size 8 and 2 size 4 pins - meaning I can fit everything I need in it without having to utilize two connectors due to insert arrangement constraints. Man I love this stuff... :hellyeah:

Finally made some headway on some things: doing a switch panel setup, installing a secondary fuse box to not only relay/fuse the switch panels but also give a much more compact setup, lastly locating that secondary in the arm rest for a more "centralized" location which will put it relatively close to the battery (relocation at a later date) and the fuel pumps while also being located near the switch panel and engine bay.

I've bought a spare fuse box just so I don't have to destroy my good front chassis harness that I'll be modifying to be relocated and spare my currently installed harness just in case I fail at relocating the other one properly. Below I have posted the setup and basic block diagram of it, the fuse box is the one from the engine bay (if not already realized).

And I'm speechless - should have gone this route, could have done my setup that way and much easier... still a thought, but I don't know if I'd be able to fuse 40 things and have enough relays to go with them. That is one sweet piece of hardware though.
 
Thanks to evo1rice I've come up with a fairly good solution and much easier setup for my switch panel setup, just ordered the parts last week and hoping they will arrive by the end of the month. I'll be using Bussmann 15303-5-2-4 fuse boxes (2) and 10 relays to control power to the following: ECU, Engine Sensors, Fuel Pumps (in-tank/inline), Radiator Fans (ECU controlled), and possibly a radiator fan override or just a spare relay - might map to something else but for now it's just going to sit there. These boxes hold 5 relays each and the two of them can fit perfectly inside the arm rest of the centre console. Will post pictures of the progress, keep posted!
 
Building has started again, below are the pictures for the 100ft of 12GA-GXL, 125ft of 16GA-GXL, and my Magnecraft metal casing with their associated 40A DPST (double pole-single throw) relay that will be the connection for my ignition coils. The controller for the relay will be inside the switch panel fuse boxes, along with the fuel pumps, ECU power, and radiator control/power (ECU control). So far so good, just waiting on the Bussmann 15303-5-2-4 fuse panels, contacts, plugs, and relays... pics to be posted.

Funny you say that, it actually can only withstand up to, but not to exceed, 600V @ 40A, could probably withstand more if I were to run a larger gauge wire from the input contact to the output (14AWG braided line). A bit overkill but they weren't too expensive, the casing was a bit high but it's not bad, should withstand a lot of on/off switching before going bad so I think it wasn't too bad; just need to find a place to install old girl.
 
The biggest upside of that style(and capacity!) relay is that you can always get in there with a mini file and clean contacts. The may not get "pitted" as fast as a normal, higher voltage application, but in the event they do get dirty, its an easy clean.

So those are 24 KiloWatt relays? Yea, I was guessing low but ive never seen that style used in a 12v application. P=I*E so, if everything held true that would handle not 100 but 2000 amps at 12v!!!
Those "perfect" numbers dont really exist when factoring in heat. Heat=resistance, which drops E, which increases I, its a cyclical loop... haha

This is one of the baddest builds and you can NEVER go wrong over building something. I still look for this one to pop back up! Great build
 
evo1rice, so I took your advice... well modified. Instead of that giant 40 fuse/10 relay bank that you mentioned I went with the smaller (as stated above). With that being said I did think about using that giant one but then realized that the fuse box relocation would/will be much easier by just removing wire rather than trying to reinvent the wheel and create my own batch of wiring with my own colours... anyways below are the pictures from a new shipment of parts - time to start building again!

I do want to thank you guys, honestly the only reason I keep going is the motivation, otherwise I'd just give up - hell my wife had to talk me out of quitting a while back. Anyways, enough of the sentimental talk... let's get this donkey show on the road!

I've had these for a while but forgot to post them, can't wait to get these installed! I plan to swap them over to my 2G mounts, they are a about 1-3mm smaller than mine so hopefully they will still fit snug and if not I'll have to have mine slightly modified to accommodate them.

Started wiring up the fuse box for the switch panel, red wires are jumper for the bus bar and the coloured wires are roughly 3.5 ft in length which should be able to reach the location of the switch panel - currently using a mock-up.

Update:

So I haven't continued on yet due to not having the mounting studs I'm looking for, still searching actually. As for right now the goal is to get old girl properly rolling again and shipped to the UK so the rest of her parts, that don't require wiring and such, can be fitted, tested, and tuned or repaired. In the process of getting a rear diff and upgraded axles, so I don't have to buy later, and get her back on the road and functioning. Keep posted, it's make or break time now - 4 1/2 months left before I may run out of time to ship it at my job's expense.
 
Well I'm back now, been working on my other hobby, computers, and got caught up in technology and whatnot. Anyway, I've been looking over my stuff to see where I left off, I should be able to roll right back into it especially with my returning to the states next year. I'll keep you guys posted of any changes.
 
I've decided to redo three of the main harnesses in the car: front, control, and rear. As seen in the previous pictures [I believe] I'm switching to HIDs, although I'm not much of a cosmetic person and have reasons behind most of the things I decide on I've decided to also add in DRLs since the cars that came with this were the ones from Canada... unfortunately I don't have one so I've made my own schematic to how I want these to work. Anyway, here's the schematic for that, hopefully I'll have everything planned out so that I can do a near-full rewire of my car (well at leas the main components).

Been doing some MAJOR research and oh man have I found some things that may have made sense when they originally made the car but after what I plan to do, that's all being changed. So in saying that I'm doing my own wire tuck without actually "wire tucking" anything. I'm building my own harness from nearly scratch since the majority of the connectors are either no longer used or have such a position relocation that they basically are no where near where they used to be. I figure by the time I'm done, and hopefully next year all that will be posted will be pictures and videos (as that's what I'd look for in a thread like this), I'll have to take all my notes and turn it into a binder just in case I deploy and the wife has to take my car into the shop for repair and they have no idea where anything is at because their manual doesn't match the layout. ;)
