Without getting into the story of the hows/whys, Manley physically inspected these pistons, and said I shouldn't use them. My engine builder says they're not ideal, but should be okay. Build is for 400ish whp.

I'd prefer not to spend the money on new ones, but have no problem doing it if it's going to be of any risk at all. Alot cheaper, and less headache to spend the cash now vs redoing a year or 2 down the road.

I'm looking for more opinions.. should I use or not?

If they were mine I would use them doesn't seem as if they are damaged and any critical area I would smooth and buff and all would be good! With that being said you have to go with how you feel but they would be fine with a little corrective measures:cool:

I would say if you want to put this part in once, and forget it for a long while, buy a brand new set, but if you want to save some money [like stated above] it doesn't look like the damage is so bad that you couldn't lightly smooth and buff the scratches out.
and remember the tune is equally as important as the type of pistons/mods you plan on using.

I would make sure to file the burrs off and just use them. The dents aren't in critical sealing areas or wear areas like the skirt. Not ideal but really shouldn't hurt much. Some of the machine lines are almost just as brough as the dents if they were cleaned up. Now if you have $500 to blow then for piece of mind sure get new one's.

Heck v8 guys use to peen the skirts on pistons to take up the extra gap from being worn. Some would even knurl the skirts.

if you decide you go new.. ill send you my addy and just take them off your hands :) but seriously.. as all have said above.. knock off any burs that may be there and they should still be good..

Make sure you smooth out the edges of those dings. If you have any sharp edges they will get super hot under combustion and could cause hot spots or even detonation. Just make sure everything is smooth and you wont have any problems, its not enough of a chip to change the weight or compression ratios on the pistons. They will run fine once smoothed out, no need to go get new ones. I have used worse before with no issues.

Thanks for the comments all. I am going to use them.
