Hey everyone. What is the best way without going with a high stall torque converter, to get my 2g off the line fast...or as fast as possible? Mods, technique? Im new to the scene with an auto trans...97 talon tsi awd

Brake boost on the stock converter depending on your set up you should be able to build boost on the line. On a 16g the stock converter works great, when you get into larger turbo set ups is when you would need to think about getting an upgraded converter.

If your planning to brake boost on stock stuff then at least upgrade to a better tans cooler. There about 200 for a kit with everything you need. Thats the least you should do. Dont abuse it though as the tranny wont last forever

Thx man..the trans is accually brand new with less then 100 miles on it with a year warrantee. Runnin an evo III 16G...But yea id figure it would run very hot so the cooler will be a must. Appreciate the reply guys

While you are at it getting a trans temp gauge to monitor your transmission with would be a good idea too. Running a 16g you can brake boost at the line and take off in boost. Also look in to a shift box. Roadsurge just came out with there new model and I have heard nothing but great thing about them. They really make these autos come to life.

If you have adj cam gears, you can retard the exhaust cam a couple degrees. If you have timing control you can advance ignition timing down low to spool up a little quicker. You may not have to sit on the converter as long that way.

Get a trans cooler AND a vacuum pump from a junkyard VW or Audi. Building boost on an auto while brake boosting will cause you to loose vacuum at the line, with the result of losing the brakes and red lighting. Switch on the vacuum pump and you will have enough brakes to launch at over 10lbs and scoot. Look for a white 92 talon at the track this shootout. He is running one to allow him to build over 20lbs at the line brake-boosting on his sinister TC.

Thx for the info man...vacuum pump sounds like a good idea..I figured I would just cut loose after a certain point while boosting. Would be great it the breaks could hold on a bit longer or at a higher psi rather

Even if the trans is new get the cooler setup and make sure there is good airflow. You will burn your new trans to the ground building boost off the line without it.
