A few days ago I bought a 1998 Eclipse GS-T for $300. The engine was fine but when you put it in any gear it wouldn't move at all. I assumed I would have to put a new transmission in. I got it towed to my house and just for the hell of it changed the trans filter and fluid. The fluid didn't even look like transmission fluid, it was black it looked like regular motor oil I can take a picture if anyone is interested. Once I put in the new fluid and filter I started it up and the car seems to be running fine, no slipping at all. Could the transmission filter possibly have been so clogged up it wasn't getting any fluid? Or maybe he had dumped engine oil into the trans? The oil was completely dark not reddish at all. Maybe I should do a transmission flush now to get the rest out? Thank you!

Had you checked the fluid level, if is too low would cause it not to move either. How was the magnet from inside oil pan if it had one did it had lots of debri? As long as it doesnt show signs of slippage I would run it but check your tranny fluid constant to make sure everything is right. Good luck

Should be cherry red and smells a bit sweet.
Black means that tranny has long been burning up the fluid with bad clutches.

You can try with the flush, but don't guarantee that will be the fix. If the flush works, use ATF+4 fluid and no Dextron, for Dextron destroys DSM trannies.

Another tranny is in order
