hello everyone i had a few questions to help me out. so yesterday i was driving my car along came to a stop a stop sign then went to take off and it was acting as if i started it from a higher gear. at first i thought it was the tranny because she has been a little bit touchy lately but when i shifted up it just got worse and then when i pulled over and pulled it out of gear the car started to stall then caught itself and rev then stall out again until i shut it off. when i opened the hood it was extremely hot but my temp gauge was not reading hot it was still in normal range. my logger read that the temp was around 215 F so ik it was overheated. she also wouldnt make boost, but will move with the clutch half engaged. does anyone have any ideas on what may b broke

you may have a clogged cat/exhaust. take a piece of paper and with the engine running at idle put it just in front of the tail pipe and if it gets pushed out of the way it's good if not clogged exhaust. If your spent gasses are coming out fine check your fuel

Um, far more likely a vacuum/boost leak, hes got the classic symptoms for it. Start looking for a blown off coupler or similar. I was scratching my head the first time I encountered it after forgetting to tighten a clamp on one of my couplers, I had no power and couldn't get it over 3k rpm. and a 2nd time I was driving, heard a pop sound, kind of like a champagne bottle, followed by an immediate loss of power, sure enough a coupler popped off my IC inlet.

Thanks il be sure to look for a boost leak but all the couplings r on n tight the only thing I cudnt check was the ic, it could be cracked if it is a leak I'm thinking water pump at the moment thought but I haven't been able to get it into my shop.

215 is far from overheating, thats a fairly typical operating temp, your coolant system is probably fine, and even if it was overheating, it wouldn't cause the issues you describe. Most likely its a boost leak, although another possibility that might explain high underhood temps is retarded ignition timing, do you have an adjustable CAS in the car?
Also you can't just go by appearances with the couplers, its entirely possible for a coupler to look like its on when its not, visual inspection isn't enough, grab on the couplers/pipes and give a tug and make sure they're tight. When I couldn't figure out WTF was wrong with my car and it had similar issues as I described, I did a visual inspection of my couplers numerous times and missed the one that was loose, it wasn't till I was messing around with other stuff and bumped one of the pipes that I noticed it by coincidence, I just kind of had a passing thought that the pipe moved more than it should have, grabbed it, sure enough I forgot to tighten a coupler-they can be sneaky. Just thought of one more possibility, might have a dead cylinder, check fuel and spark too.

make a boost leak tester and test it the proper way. also you could be misfiring without noticing.

start with the basics before anything else.

boost leak test
are you getting spark to all plugs. last time you changed plugs?
timing correct? verify it hasnt jumped a tooth.

Newbie here, was searching the forums looking for answers. I see that this is an older one but hoping for a response somewhere.

I recently just baught a 92 Talon Tsi, had one years ago and have been out of the scene until I stumbled upon one for sale near me. Have had the car for a little over a month put 1,500 miles on it with no issues. Long story short, replaced the fuel filter because the other was clogged. When i finished I started the car and it fired right up but it will not rec over 3,000rpm. Idles fine, revs fine, doesn’t want to stall out just will not go over 3000.

So what i have checked...
I have fuel pressure
I have spark
No boost leaks

Mods to car:
Ecmlink v3
20g
Intercooler
BOV
Spark tech COP
Fuel pump(not sure which)
1100cc injectors
Fuel rail
FuelLab regulator

Again car ran great until fuel filter got changed.

Thanks in advance

Any codes? I had a bad MAF do this on my 3rd gen GS. reved up fine in neutral, but as soon as you tried to give any throttle while driving, fell flat on its face.

No codes, no CEL’s and the prior owner deleted the MAF.

I guess i will attempt to drive it, just didnt want to hurt anything. I’ll also look into the launch limit. Just weird that it happened out of nowhere.

What did you remove to change the fuel filter? Retrace your steps.

Fuel filter was half way down the firewall with no obstructions. Got straight on it with wrenches. I looked for a connection or hose i might have bumped but everything looks good.

So.. after checking and checking again everything was mechanically fine. What it turned out to be was the rev limit was set at the same as launch control. Not sure how that happened considering i never changed anything tuning wise while changing the fuel filter.

Again, im new to ecmlink so i have some learning to do.

I appreciate everyone’s input to help with the issue. Thanks
