I bought myself the 12pin Mitsu connector to serial cord that I'm sure most of you who datalog are running, but I didnt want to use a palm pilot, so I bought a Keyspan Serial to usb connector, and a gender changer to hook it all up to my laptop. Problem being, I cant get any software to recognize that its connected; MMCD on the Palm Emulator, Palm'n'stein, TMOLogger, nothing at all. I've read other posts on this happening, but none of them were too clear. Any help would be appreciated

I noticed no one has replied so I 'll give it a shot. I use ecmlink and I had to connect to the internet to download drivers. Not sure if that would apply to you. Good luck.

Ecmlink is only going to connect to an ecmlink chip installed on an eprom ecu via the OBDII port under the dash on the drivers side. you can only tune and datalog with ecmlink when its connected to the ecmlink chip (v2,v3, etc.)

I'm almost certain he was referring to having to download drivers for his corresponding apps to work properly. I don't believe he was saying the OP could use ECMlink on a regular ECU to datalog.

OP if you have a Palm or know of someone with a Palm, verify that it is working with that setup so you can rule out what the culprit might be.

Yeah, I am going to try to get the palm setup working, my buddie has an old one laying around, so I'll just throw MMcd on there and hook it's serial cable up to my ADAL cable and see if it works. I think the problem is that the serial to usb adapter is rs-232, and the signals from the ecu to the adapter just don't match up.

I had to use a null modem between my logging cable and keyspan adapter. That just flips the tx andrx pins. I think its pins 2 and 3.

My setup looks like this: logging cable to null modem to gender changer to keyspan adapter to USB cable.

The null modem on ebay looks just like the DB9 genderchanger that I already bought, but it DOES indeed perform the function of switching pins? If so, thats a cheap investment. I appreciate the links! I'm not too sure where to put all those .dll files I got in the download though, I'm thinking they get copied into my system32 folder.

First of all let me introduce myself. I am from Bulgaria( that is why I am sorry for my english). I have a 1G dsm gsx and forgive me to bring up an old thread like this. I am having a hard time to datalog with the cable i made. It keeps giving me a Serial comm error. I connected everything and soldered like in the schematic from this post http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/the-easy-way-to-make-a-1g-usb-datalogging-cable.424006/

I installed the drivers, checked the connections at the ALDL if they are losse or something and nothing. So i am wondering have i ordered the right cable because it is also a 232 but it says 232RG. Is there something wrong with the cable because of that RG. I will hook up some pics of the actual cable and the packaging that came with it.
