We are going out tomorrow. Shooting for the Colorado et record. I think the claimed record is bogus as we have what I feel is a very well setup and fairly light car. But we are shooting for low 13's @ 5800ft at least.

Good Luck tomorrow! I just spoke to Marcus and he was telling me about this. I too am hoping for a low 13 this season or better on the 14b.

Just got back from the track, they canceled it as soon as I got to the gate, before they even started running. Pretty shitty, since it didn't start to sprinkle for another hour, and I could have banged out a couple runs. I'm hoping for Wednesday if the forecast clears up. April in New England is a shit show...

1.718 60'
2800lbs with driver

Density altitude was right at 8100ft today.

That was all it had. Three 13.7'@97 actually. This is with the wastegate wired shut, knock sensor turned off, e85 and as much timing as well fealt we could push. Also with a fresh 14b back from Justin. I had at least ten guys question wether or not it was a 16g. They did not believe it was a 14b running like that. And we had 100mph traps a few years ago. Just bad et's. Knowing what we know, there is no way that guy went 12's with a 14b at this altitude. In a full weight car. Drama free day. Not a single wrench was turned. Drove the car home.

That's a crazy DA. Still some good times with that weight and altitude. Drama free days are always fun! What's next? You guys gonna strip it down and see what it will run? Or not really wanting to stick with the 14b for long?

The car gets as light at 2600-2620lbs without me when I remove the exhaust and run less fuel in the tank. The only was we can get lighter is to start spending money on light parts. I suppose we can do some more cutting but, with me putting all the money into this car, I have no desire to invest into parts like that for such a low powered vehicle. My intentions are to slap a big turbo on it and run with things, the owner wants to give it a few more tries and see how much more et we can drop.

I have a few ideas but I am not expecting the car to go much faster with the 14b. It was nice to hear people freak out that we were going that fast with the stock turbo.

It's pretty crazy how much it changes things up here at our altitude. Great efforts out there yesterday. Gives me an idea of how far off I was expecting to go with mine. Now I'm just hoping to get into the 13's. Should be interesting.

I appreciate your view on the difference of running at altitude. It seems like you are following the classic 14b build path of keeping is simple and getting creative without spending too much. Do you think there's much more left in it?

One thing we are considering trying is to put a smaller or stock cam back in it. It has BC280's which we now know to not be so great. They may be too large for our application considering how hard out airflow falls off on the big end. I am torn as I want to go faster, just not with the 14b. Nor do i want to swap cams again after we do make the switch to a larger turbo. It could maybe run a few tenths faster if we find some more weight to lose and we try the cam swap. I just dont see us running 12's unless we find another 35+hp and maybe lose another 50lbs.

Yes those are big cams for a 14b. Have you logged airflow? I've seen raw airflow level off and hold at a peak level despite boost dropping off at high rpm.

I rigged up a 2" snorkel friday night. It is not finished as I had a race yesterday morning before we went to the track and had to head to bed to prepare for that. I am a competitive runner so that takes up a lot my time as well. The funnel at the end of pipe sits where the passenger foglight normally would. It is not completely sealed to the bumper yet, but sits real close to the surrounding. It needs modified a little more and painted.

Anybody getting out there with the 14b right now?

Getting out there? Not so much. Making progress though. Despite my ultimate goal having been getting the new car ready by the shootout it's pretty much been decided that it's not going to happen. I have a few parts that I still need and the budget as always is holding things back. I'm honestly not discouraged though, I'd rather get it done right. I'll probably have the car running by then if I can get the fuel cell mounted up, but it won't be race ready.

That engine bay is looking sweet Shane!

I'm slowly making progress right now with my car, but it will slow drastically come October. I just got an assignment to move to Charleston, SC (Air Force). Very excited about the move, it's just obviously going to slow things down with the move and having a house built. The good part is the house we are having built will have a 3 car garage...along with some other odds and ends to make it support some shop tools!

I'm hoping to hit the track with the car in a couple weeks just to see how the car/setup is running!

That sounds like a nice career move. Are there any tracks in that area? I hope the DSM scene is active out there. Best of luck!

There is a track about an hour from there that's a smaller track. I will have to look into it and check the details. There are a lot of big tracks within a few hours. I was looking through the regional forums and the posts there scarce. I will just have to do a lot of learning the tuning side. That's the biggest thing I need help with.

Thanks Dave.

You got to get that car done already Shane. There is no reason we shouldn't have a 10 second awd 14b car. :)

Car is nearly ready to fire up, I'm ready to start tracking down what I screwed up while pulling wiring. I did figure out that one "unused" wire actually fed power to the dash lights, going to have to remedy that one. From there, it's just a lot of little stuff to get her road worthy again. I need new bolts for the rear axle cups, install the hatch and hood, clean up the wiring with looms, etc.

2014 needs more 14b in it!

Sounds good Shane!

My car should be getting fired up soon, but on a E316g. Found a deal I couldn't pass up that included trading my 14b for the 16g, but I will pick one up down the road to get back into the stock turbo game. Just waiting on my fuel fittings to build my fuel system...then bleed brakes and put in new fluids and she should be ready for some tuning!

We went 13.4@100 three passes in a row Wednesday. Put the stock cams back in and gained 3 mph and .3 seconds. Ran our first 1.6 sixty foot in the car. Still not where we want to be. Under 2800lbs with driver. Our density altitude was almost 8000ft. Hot and humid as it rained all day and quite right before the track opened. Not sure if there is a 12 in it up here.

We do know that in the half mile event in Colorado springs last month all the English racing cars were down 10-15mph versus their last race in California.

So you guys ran a 13.1 @ 103mph?? If so, then you might have a chance of going mid to low 12s at a sea level track, depending on how much better you get the 60'. You would obviously pull way more power, which should help the entire pass, from launch to finish!

I may take the gvr4 out to the track at the end of the month. Before they repaved the very crappy track I was able to pull 13.7@101 w/2.0 60'. This was on blown suspension and crappy hard dry rotted tires. The cool things is they had pros come out and do the track. And everyone says its way faster now. It has a 200' launch pad now and is perfectly flat! Now I've been modding it and it has new tires and suspension. I also have a chip with launch control at 5k and a clutch to handle the launch! The car launches nicely now and really moves, holds 18psi to redline just fine. I'm thinking its got high 12's in it just the way it is. Then once ecmlink is here and I can add bigger injectors and meth maybe 11's!! :)

No, we went 13.7@97 per my last update in this thread. We gained 3/10's and 3mph since.
