Should be a lot less maintenance with the 4g64 in there. Timing belt would be much easier than the 6g72. Plenty of space for a larger turbo.

Definitely easier to get to everything for maintenance and upgrades! The turbo I will run should fit with ease....I have a new 7 blade HX40 and a t3 cast ERL mani on the shelf. Just need the BEP t3 housing for the 40. Should fit with plenty of room. Collecting parts for the 2.4 Long rod build that I will do this fall.

Yea this is different and kinda cool.I just bought a 1g 3000gt vr4 a few months ago.after years upon years of working on mine and everyone I knows dsm it started to get a bit boring.have done heads , timing belt and brake lines which were rusted on the car.one thing I dont understand is why since as long as I can remeber all ive heard was the horror stories of working on the 3000gt tt.well I really dont find it all that challenging other then a bolt here or there thats a bi*** to get.but I can say I love the torque the v6 provides and the way I look at it the extra work is worth the displacement and torque plus I can still rev to 7k. I could never see myself doing this but hey looks nice and clean and parts will be cheaper and easier to find.cool car

Very interesting. Did you do this for long term money savings reason? What is the weight difference with the engine? Is it still AWD?

Yes still awd. Using a 2g DSM auto trans and Tcase with a 6sp 3000gt diff.

Estimating 75lbs on weight of engine. Did it because I could when others have only talked about it. I like the simplicity of one turbo and one set of cams. It's also beneficial to have so many guys pushing the 4g platform and parts availablity.

I had some fun this year driving the stock 2.4 14b setup to make sure everything worked. This winter it will get better parts:) 3000GT chassis is very heavy so it will never be a competitor to the DSM builds but should still be fun.

You gotta let me know how the .70 a/r housing on the 7-blade HX40 spools on the 2.4! I'm eyeballing that turbo right now in that exact combination.

It'll be going on my long rod 2.4L. ;) Love this motor.

Since I'm auto, spool is tougher to pin down. For example, with the 14b, 3rd gear pull from 2500 rpm it blows right past to 4k and looks like I don't hit full boost until 4k. But if I lock in the converter and do the same it hits 24psi by 2800.

I'm adding kelford 280/288 with the 2.4LR build so that may affect spool vs other combos.
