Since I bought my 98 Eclipse the turn signals have never worked. After my 6bolt swap/build I decided its time to figure it out. The hazards have always worked, but no matter what I try the turn signals will not work.

Ive tried: New bulbs, New combination switch on the column

Ive looked at the fuses under the dash (the cover was missing so Ive been flying a little blind on that), but from the diagrams Ive looked at the turn signal and hazards are on the same fuse (is this true?). I was also wondering if the turn signals have their own relay somewhere? Any help would be great so I dont get picked up by the cops LOL.

Basic relay info

Relays - how they work and how to test with multimeter - YouTube

That's decent info and all, but doesn't quite qualify for the flasher relay unit. It has more than 4-5 pins on it, and in relation is a bit bigger. It has 10 pin outs and doesn't plug into a fuse/relay block. It has it's own dedicated wire harness connector.

What year DSM are you working on?

I found this again since I was reading through the electrical manual this time. Same trouble shooting as before though. But it says to check the switches for your indicated issue. I'll look more for testing the switch, but for now, it looks like that's the direction you'll need to go.

Mine is a 1999. I hooked everything back up and of course the turn signals and hazard lights are working fine right now. I'm going to be gone most of the day and I'll be in my car part of the time. I'm going to drive it a while without using the turn signals and see if the fuse blows. If nothing happens, I'll start using the turn signals and see how long it takes for the fuse to blow.

Also, someone mentioned to me that it could be a grounding problem.

I'll need to get back to you later this afternoon.

Thanks again for all the help.

UPDATE:I drove the car today and the fuse never blew. I guess I'll see what happens tomorrow.

I drove the car yesterday and today and the fuse didn't blow. Now it's getting really frustrating. :ohdamn:

Spyderdrifter- Did you have any luck coming up with anything?

Well I had a long day at work so didn't have much time to research there. However, I found something the other day so I'm trying to find it again. Until then, here are the wiring schematics for the turn signals if you think it'll help.

Thanks for the wiring diagram. I was thinking about doing some resistance testing so the diagram will come in handy.

It's frustrating though because I've driven it the last two days and haven't blown the fuse. Now it looks like it's intermittent, probably gonna be really hard to pinpoint.

Anyone have any idea why my right turn signal will work but it flashes rapidly? My left side works fine both the right side of the lights still work, and as far as I can tell the Hazard lights are normal speed.

Sorry to thread jack but I didnt' want to have two threads with the same topic.

Crap, I missed that part, my bad ;)
Did you put LEDs in on that side? That alone would make them flash faster, but would do it on both sides if you installed LEDs all the way around. If not, and you have the normal incandescent bulbs, then I'm not sure on that, maybe a short to voltage situation.

No LED's haha just your average 2g taillight bulbs :)
I thinking it may be ashort as well, cause if it ws the relay then the left side would be doing the same thing.. I know my ecu isn't bad, and I know my bulbs work.. hmmm.. da** dsm's

see if any can help. I'm almost certain I saw something on here one time about locating a voltage short. I might look again anyway since work is so sloooooooowww today.

One other thing, how do your hazard lights blink?

They work just fine at the normal reate of speed. It really stumps me...

If you have a spare flasher relay (or can get one) I'd swap them to see if there's any change. I replaced a flasher relay on an Accord here at work a few days ago. Was testing everything on the car with the flasher removed and the tested failed, so when I talked to a co-worker, he said the flasher was bad, sure enough. It's problem was none of the driver side signals worked with the blinker switch or hazard switch, and there was no hyper-flash. I know it's not your issue, but could be a possibility. When I put the new relay in, everything was perfect.

Any new info on your end?
Can't get the fuse to blow again. Everything is working fine. Got to be a short somewhere but until the fuse goes again (if it does), I'm just going to keep driving and see what happens.

Thanks for the help. I'll keep you informed if anything changes.

I dunno if this will help anyone, but the turn signals won't work if you take out the hazard switch. I just wasted fifteen minutes figuring that out. :ohdamn:
