Start with the easy stuff obviously, so fenders and headlights.

Grab a good seat and start on firewall, remove lines, wires, solenoids, cruise box whatever bothers your view of that shiny old firewall paint.
(Cant wait to replace all these rusted screws and bolts with new shinier fasteners)

Next weekend invite one very tired but motivated great friend Tyler over, and watch things magicly but maybe forcibly removed items disappear, things like front suspension, subframe, everything!!
(Subframe bolts didnt want to come without a fight one bolt was stripped :()

Things have been happening and in a way unhappening, so a quick update is always welcome. Well as seen in previous post the engine bay was looking pretty haggard and ruff so that leads to rubbing then cleaning...then rubbing and cleaning again of all things hard..err..metal!

Queuing before picks, all prepped, sanded, and scoured.
gedc0222.jpg

Got a little blurry on this one oops.
gedc0224.jpg

Before the after pics I just want to go on record and say ive never painted a car nor have I had any time or experience with a spray gun. So with a little research online and all the things I learned finger painting in first grade I jumped in with a hopper full of gloss black urethane enamel.

Queue sadness!!...

So in hindsight it wasnt too bad for my first spray as I was told by more experienced accomplices, after the fact. Though with all the orange peel heaven, and bits here and there and a whole edge missed, as I stated in the beginning I have to unhappen all of it to fix all these first time errors, so im learning from my mistakes....well back to sanding and scouring....:/

P.S. For the low low price of the soul of your first unborn you too can own a package of 3m Red Pads!!!!......My fingers hurt.....

Alrighty well I had been plowing through getting this bay resanded since my time borrowing Kevins compressor had been extended, more than I wanted, so for three days I sanded and scoured leaving me with another surface to paint on.

So this time around the goal was less nibs in the paint and attempting to not miss smal.....ok, LARGE sections. This time we were going to do things correct, clean and safer...for my life I dont know if my wife would let me live if the house smelled like fumes again.:shhh: So I bought some tape, a 20 inch fan and and two 20 inch filters, and a bunch of drop plastic sheets... all for under 40 bucks:thumb:. So i built my booth!
gedc0232.jpg

Well stupid me didnt get the paint mixed due to a common sense error, reducer and hardner mixing, so my first two coats were kinda dry, but at least the gun was dialed in:coy:. Well I realised my error and so the next two coats were mixed right and went on very wet for dat shine yo.

gedc0233.jpg

My filtration setup worked out very well house smells like cinnamon and my fan and filter setup well.....did its job. snd im alive!:p

gedc0236.jpg

Well yesterday the U-Pull-it around the corner had an all you can carry sell for 65 bucks:hellyeah:. With planned intentions of what I wanted to pick up I figured it was gonna be too much work but ended up running into a friend and his dad and helped them pull a transmission off a saturn well I still wanted to grab a unique item" forgot to grab a 3g brake booster:beatentodeath:" but since my friend was carrying the transmission he alowed me to throw my stuff on too soooo I didnt spend penny:D. What did I pick up? Well an experiment of sorts.

A electronic power steering pump WITH a built in reservoir from a toyota MRS 2000-?

(Insert Batman Theme)"humm it in your head" UPDATE!!!!

So ive been busy and quite a bit has been done, but ill be honest ive been lazy. Just looking from my last update should point that out. So just a little update for now then more to come. So far I think all suspension is cleaned, refreshed and painted. I think? Pictures!

Subframe was painted like the engine bay with the single stage black.

Then the upper arms got the same treatment and shiny new ball joints by Moog.(thought i used VHTs epoxy paint for experimentation).

The retainer clips really fought me thought.

But clean and ready to go.
20141031_215936.jpg

Just to finish off this quick glimpse, while I was in there kinda thing, with the help of the Tyler we replaced all the gaskets and rebuilt the steering rack. Along with new gaskets it received a new housing after we forced a gasket through the wrong end but hey it looked right!, quick/long trip to the junkyard and were good.
