Hood is on now after some trimming of hood webbing:sneaky:.

Driver's mount and front roll stop. Still need to make a rear roll stop. Not really a big deal until I start launching it.

Nothing amazing on the fab work, but it works.

Needs tuned badly. Will work on that over the weekend if I get time. Slow as poop with no timing and really rich, but it has instant spool with a 6cm 14b on a 2.4 9:1 with e85..LOL. Proof of concept complete. Pilot phase testing over next 3 months, then final stage with a much more exciting turbo setup in ~5 months:D

Yes, AWD with a 2g Auto. Forced Four shift box. Front and rear 3000GT axles and rear diff. 4g intermediate shaft.

This is interesting to say the least. I always thought the reverse swap was interesting too. LOL 6g72tt into a 2g. The work involved for the lack of gain however..idk.

Cool car though.

I think it's great. I'm sure it made the little trip worth it since it's running.
Who cares what some 3si guys say but I'm a DSM purist LOL Just joking 3s guys. I love 3kgt parts too! A little cross breeding in family is alright in my book........ with cars only you pervs!

+1 on driving it without the hood. I did mine too. Almost as good as bikini clad gals riding around in a jeep with the top down.

Why put a heavier minivan engine in a DSM when you already have a great foundation?
Yes I lost .6 cyl of displacement, (3.0 vs 2.4) but what I gained is an extra 1000rpm or more (going 2.4LR) in rpm without a drysump setup, lost some weight, greatly increased simplicity, and opened up a world of cost-effective performance parts that have been race and dyno tested in multiple combinations.

This is new at least to me. Did you document the procedure? Or are there already plenty of swaps like this done online? I soooooooo want to do this!!!!!

To my knowledge, this is the first swap in the world. I'll take donations if you want to know how to do it;). I may build a jig this fall for motor mounts but it's really not that hard to set the engine in if you have a welder and angle grinder. Getting the angle correct is the only tricky part.

Yeah, had the two road trips for parts. This "running longblock, just needs a tune" was a piece of work. Previous owner had apparently busted a rod/piston at some point and didn't clean it out for the rebuild. Had the pan off twice and more metal showed up, so I stripped it down completely to clean it. He used a 2g intake gasket on a 1g head. (obviously didn't seal) Oil drain for turbo was -4 but had a hacked together fitting that was even smaller. (Of course, oil everywhere in intake and o2 housing.) No oring behind the castle nut. That was a mess. Coilpack and ptu wiring that were melted badly from appears to be an engine fire based on how the intake mani looked also. A rebuilt 1g head (good) that has a major gash/crack right through the fire ring area of cyl 3 (not good). Of course many stripped holes, missing bolts and even bolts to long for valve cover so they didn't......At least the block and crank is good.....replacing the rest when I build a long rod this fall. Or will find a second block to build on the side.

Hood is on now. Glad it fit without adding a dsm hump:). You'll have to come check it out sometime.

Somewhat against the rules, but it is related to custom fabrication.....If anyone has an ac braket and compressor that will fit the 4g64, PM me. Time to add AC and get some custom lines made. Already had a high pressure PS line made so I have PS.

Forgot to mention that I adapted a 3000gt alternator so I have even more amps then the typical saturn alt. I had to weld on a new mounting tab to alternator case but it's not hard to do for anyone with a TIG.

I think you're missing the point in my post. I think the reverse swap is cool but it is definitely not something I would ever do. I like what you have done. The gain is pretty obvious. LOL

So was it bolt in with the side motor mounts?
3000 trans mount. Custom drivers mount and custom front and rear mount/rollstop. Driveshaft yoke modded to use dsm tcase. Wiring for DSM coils. Little parts swapping for front axles and some fairy dust in AEM (not much)

With less low down, how does it drive? I know the 3k's are a bit hefty.

My car weighs 3450 with full interior, AC, 18/19" wheels, and an auto (added some weight). Still AWD and still have the active aero. I wouldn't call that hefty since that's evox weight and I have 20% more displacement. I haven't even done a carbon hood yet or wire reduction for the crap that I deleted (ABS, cruise, SRS).

This is just the test phase so I'm running a 2.4, with 9:1, e85 and a 14b. Previous was a twin 14b setup on 3.0, 8:1, e85 and 280 cams. At this point, I haven't lost a thing down low. Once I build the engine add a little compression and a ~70lb/min turbo, I'll restall the converter to match and again don't expect a drivability difference.

I looked at the title like WTF... Checked out the pics and realized, this is the greatest this in the world! It solves all DSM drivetrain problems cause you get a getrang trans and solves all the 3Si problems of finding room under the hood to work on those 6g72s.

You should read again and not just look at the pretty pictures;) I'm using a 2g dsm auto trans. No getrag. Oh, and you have a simple solution to your drivetrain problems already....auto;).

It certainly makes my engine bay easier to work in and simplifies modding.

Yeah, I did read the part about it being an automatic but I just meant it in the aspect of other individuals that may due the swap. Manual transmissions are a lot of fun on the street

It looks so small and goofy in there.
Your opinion. I think it looks perfect and I have plenty of room for a good manifold and big turbo between block and radiator. But I am also looking at ease of access for maintenance, repair and upgrades:D

Yes, but so are autos. Perfect launches every time on the street vs 1/3 good, 1/3 bog, 1/3 spin (be honest;)). Perfect high rpm shifts. No fear of a gear shattering. No need for a heavy pressure plate inducing too much thrust loads and a nice big fluid filled dampener on the trans side all make the street use fun to me;) :D (BTW, a getrag still isn't going to bolt up to a 4g just because it's in a 3000gt chassis instead of a DSM)

Custom bell housing adapter and perhaps, custom drive shaft and shifter? I didn't know the 3k gt had a getrag trans, I seriously wonder if it would be possible. I gotta do some research now, sweet build man.

Should be a lot less maintenance with the 4g64 in there. Timing belt would be much easier than the 6g72. Plenty of space for a larger turbo.
