Good ear! I had an issue with the shifter cable moving that run and it jumped from 1st to 3rd. That was overdrive I went into at the end you were hearing. There's definitely et left on the table from that mishap.
It's not as structural as you'd think, I had it cut out of my old chassis without a cage and the cage in my new car has the rear bar of the cage attach across the rear shock towers so it had to go regardless.
You can separate the airbag cover from the airbag and just use something to attach it...
You can get creative with a spot weld drill bit! That steel piece that runs from shock tower to shock tower can go. I'm not sure what the rules were for the dash, but removing the bottom section under the steering column clears up some weight. If you have a carbon hood with pins, just ditch the...
Your car looked good, man, moves out hard on the 14b. Glad to see some guys still sticking around with the small turbo game, it motivates me to get mine back out. It's a shame they x'ed the stock appearing turbo class, it was a good time seeing guys pushing the limits. I really thought that...
I think for those who are now on the fence about going because of a handful of GTRs, whom also have never been to shootout, maybe stay the hell home then since your going to get all boogerlipped about an event you've never even physically supported. I've been going for 8 years now and a couple...
I'm not trying to take away from what this car has accomplished, which is extremely impressive..but don't get too caught up in the weight factor. I know how people tend to skew weight numbers around, been going on since the beginning of dsms in drag racing. I knew curt Brown's old talon really...
Actually the quickest stock block 4g63 is 9.19. It's in a rwd BMW, but if you're saying quickest 4g63, this car isn't the quickest. Quickest and fastest stock block dsm, yes...4g63, no.
Any updates on this? Great job on the fab work btw, did you happen to weigh the 8.8 setup vs. the stock IRS ? I've read from the c-dub guys that it saves 100lbs, seems like quite a stretch but I suppose it's possible. That alone would be worth the swap for me, not to mention the added strength.
I've been tossing around the idea of throwing a 14b on and going for broke after the shootout in the fall to see how my new chassis/setup would do. I don't think my car will be quite light enough but who knows.
Thanks for the post David! I was so very pleseantly surprised to see the tear down results, I thought for sure it was a little beat up! Hopefully this real world evidence will help sway those who were on the fence of who to go to for an engine build. Like I said in my email notes, I couldn't be...
