Well, since nobody has had any ideas or suggestions, I think I figured this out for myself. I'm thinking that the vehicle has a bad viscous coupling now which can make the car jump forward at times when the torque isn't transferred properly between the front and rear. Seems like one's trying...
Having interesting problems with my manual transmission. I have a 1991 Galant VR4 and the vehicle is bucking as if I'm in too high a gear when foot is off the gas and just cruising under the vehicle's own momentum. For instance, let's say I'm in 5th and cruising at a low rpm and too low a...
Doing this from my phone. Make sure you set your cas to 5* base timing by grounding the timing adjustment plug at firewall. Idle set beforehand too around 750 to 800 rpm for setting base timing. Egt will go up at idle if you're timing is too retarded or hella lean or rich too if too much...
Found this site to purchase the alternator. However, does this alternator need the voltage regulator that they are selling at the bottom of the page in question. I'm just wondering since I will be doing this swap soon.91-97 SC/SL Series 1.9L
A crows foot works nicely and if you're one of those rocket scientists that likes the perfect torque, then this is what I've done in the past. It is a PITA.Torque Wrench Adapter Calculator - CNCexpo.com
Please make sure your knock sensor is torqued properly. Mine was too tight and picking up everything as knock in the 3.5 to 4.5 range. 17 to 20 ft/lbs. i believe. I was battling this phantom knock for years and always having timing pulled by the computer until this simple fix cured it.
Regarding E85 what are your opinions on Iridium plugs? Smaller electrode better electric potential - at least in theory. Maybe less blowouts with a slightly wider gap for better ignition.Honesty, I've used BPR7ES and BR7ES for years and gonna switch to BR8ES. However, there are Iridium...
"Soot" lots of carbon build up from running too rich WAY TOO RICH. I had this problem running 93 when my knock sensor was screwed in too tight - not by me. 17 to 20ft lbs I believe is the standard. I would add fuel to compensate for knock that really didn't exist "even with the phantom knock...
Thanks for the spark plug picture! Mine are still sooty, so I have a lot more to go. It is just the damn popping when I let off the throttle. Kinda scary - the last logs I posted had the popping upon throttle closure, maybe you can see something in the *.csv file. NOTE that the popping...
Agreed. I'm starting to realize that E85 may be a little too forgiving since it doesn't have any real "early" warning signs or a problem until it is too late - referring to knock. As someone said, once you knock on it, it may be too late. I think the only warning you have is EGT and I think...
Be careful, my EGTs go up pretty quick with no knock even on the stock map. I double checked my timing and it is right at 5* base with BPR7ES or BR7ES I don't remember which. EGT gauges are a little cheaper now, wouldn't hurt to have one with E85.Those with EGT gauges, where are your WOT...
Wow, 12.3:1 and 12.5:1 is a little scary for me because that would kill me with pump gas. I'll give it a try and ease into it. I've heard people running 21* or more with E85. Should I have 21* at the full boost range and then increase it a little before and a little after when boost starts to...
Glad I'm on the right track. I will lean it out a little and see how it pulls. Although, my EGts are a little hot I think. Maybe my timing is too retarded which could get things cooking. Thanks for the reply.
I know this is an older thread, but that seems awfully lean. Not that I'm doubting you, I'm just concerned because I just made the switch yesterday and I'm in the 11.5 to 11.8:1 range at WOT with 16* timing at the logger. Was looking to go 18* timing for some safety, but should I consider...
