It would be pretty easy to confirm yourself just sand where the mounting points are. I would say it is a lose wire or connection but with out seeing the problem first hand this is only a qeuss.
if there is a fwd fly on a awd the flywheel should be pushing on the bell housing and not letting to motor turn so if that's the case you could just try and rotate the motor by hand if it does not spin that's probably the problem. No they are not interchangable the awd fly is smaller
The spring rate of the rear awd springs are higher for weight transfer. I have awd springs on my fwd and from all i can tell is the rear end feels like a brick.

Aluminum is very forgiving it will polish back up. To anyone that tells you paint wont effect efficacy .Keep this in mind Allison a maker of transmissions will void a warrnty if they find any trace of paint on the aluminum housing. With that said Im not saying a inner coolier wont work if...
