If you read my other post you know I've been perusing ebay tonight LOL. Apparently the manufacturers of cheapo catch cans have upped their game a bit; now you can get a "baffled" mini catch can for $25. This one caught my eye because it has two inlets and one outlet and I wanted to run my pcv to the can as well.

My question to all the catch can experts is does this "baffling" look legit? Supposedly has a 50 micron bronze filter. I don't know enough about catch cans to tell. I'm currently using a single chamber ebay cheapo but it does the job. Any input would be appreciated.

So, you want to run your VC vent and your PCV valve to this can, then the outlet to...what?

Personally I'd like to see the inlet to the can below the aluminum baffle, and I see that filter getting clogged pretty quick. Depends on how baller you're trying to be with your can.

Better flow path and no issues with vacuum/no flow with dual sealed cans. Cant really effectively use a single shared can for both vent ports.
fix my headgasket. A couple catch cans will be next up
 
Actually your pcv valve isnt venting anything under boost, it’s a check valve that only draws in fumes under vacuum, once you remove it then it’s a vent LOL, I don’t think two catch cans are needed unless your running a lot of boost from a massive turbo or you have some gnarly blow by

While correct they aren't supposed to leak, all pcv valves I've tried leak a small amount. Problem is with running both the pcv and vc vent to the same can, is the pcv the becomes completely useless. Most of this will depend on where you run the can vent to: intake manifold? Massive vacuum leak. Pre-turbo inlet? Now you've made the pcv useless.

Also, under normal operation while in vacuum, flow technically goes from the inlet, through the vc, through the pcv then into the intake manifold. While in boost, pcv valve closes and preturbo inlet becomes the low pressure side and flow reverse, now being drawn from the vc to the intake to relieve pressure. So a single can that's not separated is pointless imo.

If the objective is to catch oil and keep it out of the intake, while providing as much ventilation and pressure relief as possible, then two cans makes the most sense, or a divided single if you want that complexity.

Absolute best case is a dry sump or vacuum pump with it's own catch can.

Not sure what the filter material is, but looks similar to what you might see in a compressor line filter. I've used one before (in-line filter) and it worked ok. The filter never got clogged because it was made out of something like a porous stone or metal mesh (can't remember), and not paper.
 
While I understand what tame talon is saying I still want to try the setup (to pre turbo). Jafro gave me the idea and many people run it this way with no problems. The different outlet of the pcv to the CAI instead of the IM supposedly isn't noticeable.

Again, I'm asking about the baffle not the idea.

Are you agreeing with me? Scroll down to setup #3. MAXIMUM pressure release. This has been debated for years and I'm not getting into it.

Again, opinions on the can. It appears to be a knockoff of the mishimoto compact can.

I actually have that exact can on my healing bench in the shop. Its honesty a damn nice can the baffling and filtration isn't top notch it wont be 100% but what can will be for 25$. I plan on running it on my daily EcoBoost focus st to swap out the larger one I made. I want to see if the baffling in this one compares to the baffling I made inside my can if so than 25$ is money well spent if you've ever fudged with catch can crap.
 
Like I said, the can would be better if the inlet port went below the perforated baffle, as that's meant to catch oil/water and drop it out of suspension in the air. With the port above it, most of the oil entering the can will end up going right through the brass filter depending on how much vacuum is applied. It will work marginally, but it's definitely not optimized, tho with some cheap modifications it could be pretty good. Just add a tube to the inlet port that drops it below the perforated baffle.

I bought that can. Plan on using it once I get my new valve cover on. I'm using 10an adapters to match the valve cover. I think it'll work just fine for a moderate build.
 
^^ I actually have that one on my watch list as well. I wanted to try the 2 inlet/1 outlet style, and this is a direct copy of the mishimoto can ($116) which is available in 2 or 3 port option
I realize I'm essentially eliminating my pcv by doing this but that's fine by me. I'll still keep it hooked up (with a check valve) so I have something for the hose to grab onto.

007jimmy that looks badass with the AN adaptors! Tell me, were the barbs included with the can plastic? I read a review of the mishimoto can and someone said they were plastic.

What made me think about that mini one was how identical it looked to the mishimoto one but at a quarter the price. Not that mishimoto isn't anything other than Ebay parts with great marketing.
