Hi Im new to the forum, having some troubles with my engine swap. So I bought a 95-96 eclipse gst engine for my 97 gst (my husbands mistake). We have it all hooked up but it wont start up. It just cranks but wont turn over completely. I have been reading some about the cas being different? Im not sure what to do to make it work with my 97 wiring harness and ecu. I feel like that might be the issue, maybe somehing needs to be modified and I don't know what it is. Please be nice like i said im new to this. My main dsm fanatic is no longer around for me to get help from. If you need more info about anything to direct me in the right direction just let me know.

You can do two things, use a 1g cas or the 97-99 cas. Or you can extend the wires on the harness for the CAS and get a pigtail for the 95-96 cas.

If you run the 95-96 style cas you will need to swap injectors and spark plug wires if you done have ecm link since the 95-96 cas will invert the injector and spark signal. (with ecm link you can just click a button)

No. swap the order. So cylinder 2/3 wires become 1 and 4. And 1 and 4 go to 2/3. That is only if you use the 95/96 CAS. If you click on the link I posted there is helpful info and pics.

Sorry misunderstood what you were saying. So just to make sure i understand properly. So if i use the 95/96 cas with the 97 ecu i swap the order? I hope i got that correct i did look at the link just want to make sure i understand properly. Since its talking about using ecm link.

So i dont need to buy anything to modify my 97 ecu? Just switch the wire order.

Thank you for you help and the link, i appreciate it.

That's correct. Don't forget injectors too.

Do you still have the 97+ engine?

So just to confirm... You are going to run the 95/96 CAS that came with the motor?
If so, then yes, swap injector pins at ecu and swap spark plug wires 1/4 is now 2/3, and 2/3 is now 1/4

Are you going to get an adapter or wire in a pigtail?

Why didn't you just use the electronics from the 97? The physical motor and head should've allowed that. Now 97 in a 95 96 different story. I don't think the head has a cas provision but in your situation use the 97 cas if you wish.

It's a can of worms, liks how when doing the engine swap they would have noticed the cam sensor had nothing to plug into.

Yes I'm using the 95/96 CAS right now. I do still have my 97 engine.

So how how would I switch the pins for the ECU? Also what would i need to do to just use the 97 CAS instead?

We did notice there was nothing to hook up to. That's why I'm here figuring out how to make it work.

So..

My point was that the connector for the cam angle sensor on the 96 engine is on the driver's side behind the cam cover, and that the plug on your 97 harness is on the passengers side by the throttle body. So you would have had to extend the wiring to plug the cam sensor in.

So take the wires you cut and extended, and swap the colors around on the connector. You don't have to do it at the ECU

Basically the 96 cam sensor is mounted under the cam, and the 97+ is mounted over the cam. So you flip the signal to let your 97 ECU see the cam through the upside down 96 sensor.

Since this seemed new to you, I doubted whether your cam sensor was even plugged in since they are not close from a 96-97

Ok thank you.

Quick question i don't know much about re wiring. You said switch the colors around on the plug, what order do i hook them up?

I don' know why you wouldn't just use the 97 cas instead unless the cam won't take it

Heh

This isn't the newbie forum. The best way to find an answer is to get onto Google, and search for key terms. So for example, Google 95 cam sensor wiring site:dsmtuners.com will display all search results for this website. Which answers your question in the thread below

Basically the wires are the same color, connect them the same color to the same color, then swap the plug wires on the coil
