Hey I just got my head back from the machine shop when they went to resurface the head it had a low spot and they welded it in and resurfaced it again. Looks like their welds have low spots too.. Amazing. What do you guys think?! I'm moments away from calling them an letting them know this isn't cool..

Did you let the machine shop you had the head work done at know you planned to use an MLS head gasket?

Has the block been decked in preparation for an MLS head gasket?

If no to either, then run a composite head gasket (OEM or Felpro).

MLS head gaskets require a rather high RA finish to properly seal. For example, Cometic recommends an RA 50 finish to ensure a proper seal.
 
I told them I plan on running MLS and they said "You'll be good" he couldn't give me a RA sadly..
I ordered a MLS, anyway for me to tell if a MLS is a mistake? Is there a chart for visual RA? Something close I mean
 
The surfaces are pretty smooth? Nothing catches my nail?
Mainly want input about the pit welding with small pits in it.. Its right on the edge of the outer diameter of the gasket seal area

I purchased a head with similar issues, worse in fact. Cars making over 600 whp on a hks head gasket. I wouldnt worry about it.
 
It's right there literally on the compression edge. I want to say screw it, but it still doesnt sit right in my mind

I would take it back to the machine shop with your gasket to show them and discuss your options.

I'd rather negotiate A discount on labor on another core than blow that chunk out during detonation.
 
hks that slut and send it......mls for the win. This is the way i look at it. If you install a composite and it works... fine. If u install a hks and its good.... your set for big power, if for some reason the finish is 2 ra off ...yah ok then install a composite . The money and time is worry it imo. Plus if the mls fails to seal. U have little to no cleanup unlike a composite. Keep your timing conservative based on the fuel your running and youll be fine. I still dont know why the mls spooks so many dsmers. On my hondas is literally rip the head off slap a new mls on and be boosting again 30+ psi......i still feel like these failures are more related to tuning issues vs install failures. Hks!!!!
 
I wanted to go HKS, might return the cometic mls I just bought. I just dont want to spend that amount and have it fail with a one time use type of thing LOL
You will be fine.... do the hks. Best headgasket they make. My head was full of small pits. I said f it and its been holding close to 40psi from a 6266.
 
They'll torch like any other gasket.

That's the reason I like them. With composite gaskets, the gasket will usually torch before you see damage like that done to the head. The "fuse" theory, as I've heard it referenced to.
