I got the sensor installed and am getting spark and fuel. I cranked her over. Some spits and sputters but will not start. I think the ignition timing is off. I'll hook up a timing light next to see where it's at.

So close..

Are you getting fuel? Make sure is not flooring the sparks, if temperature sensor is bad the ecu will send to much fuel making almost imposible to start (when cold).
Double check you have spark as well.

Give a brake to the starter in between so it can cool down otherwise you will be replacing it to soon.

This is awesome. have you looked into the Cam sensor Made by Kiggly racing?
http://kigglyracing.com/all.html/
Also you should contact JafroMobile on youtube for Oil system Brainstorming

No I had not heard of that cam sensor. Thanks for sharing. I'll look into it. I'll shoot Jafro a message it sounds like he knows his stuff when it comes to that.

Thanks for the advice. Yes I need to get the coolant sensor fixed for sure. I need to get a new pigtail ordered as well as the iac working. I have spark just lost about all the compression only ~20 psi due to the seals giving way. I hear you on the started.

i seen someone mention swapping plug wires, if you went through with the ecu mod and needed to swap plug wires you will want to check injector pulse and make sure the injectors are firing at the right time, per cylinder. they can be off and still run o.k. but for what you are doing i would think you would want to verify they are actually 100% in time.

I had not thought of that but good point. I'm sure that is the case. I'll probably hack together a simple signal inverter between the CAS and the ECU for now.

if you are running a 1g CAS just take it off and spin the inner piece over once and then put it back on. this will invert the signal and you can at least check and see if things line up. again you are kind of adding bandaids to bandaids but for now it will let you make sure things are at least happening at the correct time. then you can worry about doing things the 'right way'.

@zedicus, thanks for the info.

The project has been stagnant for a while but I made some progress this week. I finally got around to building an electric furnace to do this..

I located some powdered metal, and made a die to press the powder. Here is the die I cam up with..

..And here is the pressed part before sintering. Its 5% by weight graphite powder..

and a short video on the process

you should cryo that stuff. the parts AND the die. especially on prototypes. you can even do the final machining step or make further alterations via machining cryoed parts. it is a very good investment in motors.

Hey zedicus, Thanks for the feedback. I don't know much about that process but open to give it a shot if it works. Right now I just need to get the thing marginally running and things for now have taken a turn for the worse it would appear..

So I have not really made any progress on this project since the last post as I ran out of money and have been having to work for a lving :( At the moment things seems to be going backwards. The engine has yet to run but apparently someone was overly excited to hear I was working on it and had their attorney sent me a letter http://goldenfab.com/temp_share/Rota...r_20170810.pdf

Looking at "EXHIBIT A" of the letter, the latest by date patent issued that is related to what I have been working on is 7th down in the list which is patent # 5,361,739 https://patents.google.com/patent/US5361739A/en) which has a patent issue date in 1994 and file date in 1993. It was my understanding that utility patents last for a maximum of 20 years. As far as I can tell I am being accused of copying patents that are expired/non-enforceable and furthermore I have not used anything related to the patents for a commercial product or for gain so even if I had outright copied a current/enforceable patent.

I called the attorney and talked to him and explained to him the situation and in typical slimy lawyer lingo diverted my questions and would not answer them only replying something to the effect of 'that is your conclusion'. I sent a message to the actual company that holds the expired patents and have yet to hear back from them. We will see how it goes...

If anyone has any legal advice I am all ears.

-Adam

Wow thanks for the update, not sure what type of attorney you would need but one thing I will say is do not be afraid of finding an attorney to represent you, I know there is a lot of fear when it comes to legal stuff but if you are not doing anything wrong and being accused of doing something wrong It may be something to pursue.

Yeah as stated its good to cover yourself and as this is for pleasere and not for business im sure your safe to continue, i mean they patent random stuff in hopes of a lawsuit but its just stupid really.

But keep up the good work and progressing. Worst case is you stop updates and complete this pronect silently that way no one knows what your doing

Seen this occur in the past.
Many times they are trying to squeeze you, to see if they can intimidate you.

Many times nothing else comes from it, as it's a stretch and they know it.

No evidence of how you profited from this, yet they insist you pay for damages and loss revenue?

Pathetic. While i understand the value of patents, this is one drop in a sea of perverted abuse of law, which only works for those who can afford it.

Are you in TX.?
If so i could inquire with my old commander.
Today he is a lawyer.

You are absolutely right. Pull up any of those patents from the 90's on google and you will see that they are listed as expired. The last 4 on that list are the only ones still active which are "Exhaust System", "Cooling Sytem", "Valve Seal for Rotary Engine", and "Piston Head for Internal Combustion Engine". Any of the others you dont have to worry about at all and as others have said they are just trying too squeeze you.

This is just a cease and desist letter plain and simple. Its really the only cheap thing you can do when using a lawyer. If they try to go beyond this then they will need more proof that you actually profited from your parts. You have had to offer it for sale and made money from it in order for there to be "damages". Just making something for personal use that infringes on a patent isn't going to be worth their while to go into litigation.

Plus the only thing they have specifically stated that is being infringed is the cam drive system which is on one of the expired patents anyway.

Keep making your stuff man dont let them intimidate you. At the very worst you have to wait another 6 years to sell the stuff your making. All of those patents are up by 2023.

Looking at the cover of the patent it does not state any extension dates and it, as stated above, is 23 years old.
Id call them back and have them prove to you that the patent is still valid being that it is over the 20 years and it was never extended.
If that cant, tell them to piss off.
