1G Idle question

So my 1g has been sitting for about two years due to having a family but now I'm working on getting her back on the road. I went and put the battery on the charger thinking it's no way it was going to hold a charge. After 24hrs on the charger I hooked it up and the dsm started up and sound great plus no leaks anywhere so I was very happy. I let it run for about 1 hour shut her off and went in for the night. About 2 days later I went out and had to put the battery jumper on the car in order for her start. But when I turned the key I could her some kind of clicking noise. Stopped left the battery jumper on there for about 15 minutes tried again and it made the noise and then started. But it would idle up and down staying in between the 1000 and 1500 rpm range. It also had a strong exhaust smell coming from the car. When I hit the gas on idle and held it at 2000 rpm range and then let go the car will idle great for awhile then it goes back to the up and down idle it will do when first started. Any ideas on what to check for. Thanks in advance.

Read, test, report back.

The clicking is more than likely the ISC so I would start there and test it. Clicking from the ISC is normal though before start up.
