this is my current build http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/my-2g-dsm-second-build-this-ones-going-smoother.499369/

i didnt have money to go buy a 2k turbo for my build but im willing to upgrade this one to make it work PLEASE HELP I CANT FIND MUCH ON UPGRADING THIS TURBO!

my goal is to run 8's and get close to 1000hp with nitrous to help spool!

the turbo i bough brand new is a bw s400 t6 part number 169012 https://www.amazon.com/Borg-Warner-169012-Turbocharger-S400/dp/B0156KP3QO

specs -
  • Compressor Wheel Inducer Diameter (mm): 75mm
  • Compressor Wheel Inducer Diameter (in): 2.94
  • Compressor Wheel Outer Diameter (in): 3.94
  • Turbine Wheel Outer Diameter (mm): 96mm
  • Turbine Wheel Outer Diameter (in): 3.77
  • Turbine Wheel Exducer (mm): 88mm
  • Turbine Wheel Exducer (in): 3.47
  • Turbine A/R: 1.32
  • Turbine Inlet Style: T6
  • Scroll Type: Twin
my questions;

1. should i leave the t6 or get a t4 for the exhaust? AND WHY?

2. should i upgrade to a billet wheel like this one, or what do you prefer i get AND WHY? http://www.spturboost.com/products/borg-warner-s400-s475-turbo-spx-billet-compressor-wheel

3. can i get a ball bearing conversion done to this turbo, and if so from who in the USA does it?

4. WILL IT WORK FOR MY BUILD!?

PLEASE POST OTHER THREADS SO I CAN READ THEM IF YOU KNOW OF ANY, AND PLEASE NO HATE ON THIS THREAD! THERE IS NO OTHER THREAD LIKE THIS SO IT CAN BE HELPFUL TO OTHERS LOOKING TO DO THE SAME.

EXPERIENCED ANSWERS ONLY,

THANKS - RICH

If going fast on the cheap is the goal, then you have a good turbo if you can build a manifold. T4 adds some cost, but gives you manifold options. You could also skip billet and get a bigger turbo. BW has an 83mm also. Going to need nitrous and revs.

If you want ballbearing, then you should have grabbed one of FP's sales. Super99 was only $16xx just last month.

To answer your question though...that should be plenty of turbo to run 8's.

There is no T4 option for the 96mm exhaust wheel. It does not exist.

didnt have the 1600 to but it LOL i spent to much on other parts, but im willing to spend extra to make this turbo better, but how?

T6 S475 is on the large side for a *typical* build. If you want a budget 75mm turbo, look at the S400SX3-75 (177101)...the turbine wheel is a bit smaller (83/74mm), and they're offered with T4 housings as small as .91 a/r (1.10 standard). As others have pointed out, the S400 series using the 96/88mm turbine is not available with a T4 housing.

You don't need a billet wheel on a 75mm turbo to make power on our platform for sure. Same with ball bearing- the main reason for wanting a ball bearing turbo on a race-only car is whenever you're demanding a lot from a small-frame turbo with a large compressor at high boost due to the lack of a thrust system as such a wheel combination would typically push thrust loads past what a smaller-frame turbo can handle....and a S400-series Borg with a 360* thrust plate will take any amount of abuse a DSM would be able to dish out as they regularly see 100+psi on diesels where the owners are compounding them.

well i guess ill stic with the stock t6 s400 and see how it works for the build, if its doesnt work ill have the extra money by then to invest in a nice precision

Going to need 100shot for sure, to get on the converter. Hope you have a good billet converter and straight cut transfer gears. My helical gears lasted 4 launches after I installed nitrous:D Probably close to 100 launches already on the straight cut gears, with more nitrous and more rpm.

i have a 300m t case for the auto build so i wont be worried about that, and yes i will be using nitrous for this car,

Do as you wish- you're going to absolutely hate the spool on that thing the way it sits.
what do you suggest i do?

He wasn't referring to the transfer case. The transfer gears inside the transmission will need upgraded, as well as the clutches, valve body, and probably the clutch drum.

not transfer case. transfer gears in the trans.

i have already done the transmission to the car, i used all BW friction material, but i didn't now they made straight cut for the w4a33, where can i find these?

I think you'll be much happier....that gigantic 96/88mm turbine wheel is even larger than what Devin is using to go 7.4's for reference. It's still going to be laggy, don't get me wrong- this is just bringing you down from that "will this thing ever spool?" realm. :D

In our experience it would not. 2.0L, revhard open t4 manifold, open t6 adapter and divided 1.32a/r t6. Manual transmission.

By 9500rpm it would only get to 15psi no matter what we tried. It just never turned the corner and did what it was suppose to.

i meen its a 1.1 a/r and im going with nitrous to help spool, but ill be at 40-50psi worth of boost. im most likely going to resell it and pick up something nice

PLEASE VIEW WEBSITE!! I THINK I FOUND A T4 FOR THE BW THAT I HAVE, LET ME KNOW IF THIS IS CORRECT, AND IF I SHOULD GET IT!!! AND I BELIEVE I POSTED THE WRONG SPECS (on OP) HERE ARE THE RIGHT ONES,

SO WILL THIS T6 WORK (smaller that what i posted before it seems), OR DOES THE T4 HOUSING WORK?

Compressor Specs:

- 63.5mm compressor wheel inducer 66lbs/min

- 5" Hose inlet 4.21 V Band Outlet Compressor Cover

Turbine Specs:

- 74.3mm turbine wheel exducer

- 1.10 A/R Twin Scroll T6 Turbine Housing 5.75 Marmon Outlet

WHAT I BELIEVE IS A T4 THAT WILL WORK! https://dieselautopower.com/borg-wa...74-turbine-wheel-1-10-ar-divided-twin-scroll/

i just took it apart, just housing off, when i measure the extruder turbine i measure the top of the blade to the top of the blade across from it? @donniekak
