As many of you know there aren't too many options for T3 and T4 turbine housings options for Holsets other then BEP and various OEM housings that are just too big, in both size and A/R.

The other options are to have an existing housing machined which can also be a little on the expensive side.

whats the best turbine housing for a HX35 or or HX40 whats the best A/R for each turbo

what is the most desired style and A/R for a HX35 and HX40

in my experience a .63-.70A/R is well match for a HX35

and .84-.96 A/R is great for an HX40

what have housing have you run and with what results

most people who have gotten away from a stock style manifold prefer a V-band outlet. what do you have/want?

do most of you guys run/prefer open or divided manifolds?

Besides the BEP bolt on .55 a/r housing has anyone reached the limits of the housings that are currently available now? Don't quote me but wasn't Dave still seeing gains in the T3 .70 housing?

well a .7ish AR is still a little restrictive for a high HP HX35 but would be ok for someone not pushing the limits i think

a .7ar ish garret 5 bolt would be a godsend for the hx35. Then you could run it on a cheap godspeed cast manifold....

I'd like to see a hx35 on a divided .63. If only this existed...

.63 i think might still be small but they do make divided housing that small, i have seen a .58 T4 divided fit an HX35 :thumb:

The .63 single-scroll housing is borderline choking for a HX35...I'd rather see a .82 divided housing used unless you're looking for T25-like spool from a twin-scroll platform.

The objective with twin-scroll is to use a larger a/r housing in order to gain flow without sacrificing spool. Look at the Evo X 152G6- same basic turbo as a 16G, but has a twin-scroll 12cm turbine housing...and I haven't heard a single Evo X guy complaining about lag from the stock turbo setup. In fact, it spools nearly the same as our 7cm single-scroll 16G's do.

Yeah, the holset 12cm t/s housing would require about a .75 head to block spacer to fit. The BEP .7 T3 is a monster too and I don't think would fit, niether would the newer garret 4 bolt GT style housings.

But the holset 9cm on a HY35 fits with some finangling. And the Ford style 5 bolt housing fits too. You can also get an internal gate vband exhaut outlet for them...so you can use my internal gate setup which works fantastic.
 
I'd like to see somewhere around .80ish or larger size T4 twin-scroll housing for the HX35. This would allow people to use the same manifold if they ever wanted to upgrade to an HX40. The Borg Warner S200SX has a less than 1mm larger turbine wheel and spools awesome in the 1.00 and 1.15 T4TS housings, while making well over 500whp. One of those housings might just work actually. I have a 1.00 housing sitting around.

These housings would probably work machined out for the HX40 as well, which would open up a nice range of sizes.
 
Im currently on a Hx40 with stock divided t4 18cm^2 and I honestly think its one of the best combos out there. I am using a punishment racing divided t4 mani with twin tial 44s. I had the .55ar bolt-on housing with fp mani and a bolt on hx35 before that. With the divided t4 it is out spooling my bolt-on 40 and has about the same spool up as the 35. But the top end is crazy compared to the bolt on 40. I cant wait to get my transmission fixed so I can actually see what it does at the track.

I know this isn't a custom housing but I dont see why you would ever need a different housing than stock, unless you didnt want to do a divided manifold.
 
You could easily spool faster with a smaller housing on that thing and still flow enough to max out the compressor. That's the beauty of twin scroll. An 18cm2 housing is BIG.
 
Because the specific housing that you want for a setup is never readily available, and even then usually on the back of another turbo. It would be much easier to have housings on a shelf somewhere.

I had to wait 3 weeks for a twin-scroll hx30 to pop up on eBay.

Not to mention T4 opens up a myriad of options for turbocharging, and twin-scroll T3 merge collectors are a pain in the butt to make.

Open T4 would be nice for those of us that are making compound setups as well. But that is a much more limited audience.

I'm running a Holset 12 cm t/s housing on my WH1C & it clears everything (even waterpipe). The only problem is I don't know what kind of manifold I'm running - it was given to me for payment for doing a rebuild for a friend along with a ex wastegate. The only thing I had to do was figure out a O2 housing. I picked up holset 5-bolt flange/gasket & had it welded up to tube & downpipe flange and seems fine on undivided T3 manifold - hits 22lbs by 3900RPM in 3rd gear.

LOL that doesn't help at all. I named out a specific cast manifold, for a reason. Some of us want to run stock fans and such, and the combo I named out will allow that. There are manifolds that allow you to run a 12cm housing and clear the block, but they also put the turbo way out in no-mans-land and severly limit your turbo choices. IMHO, who gives a #### about denting the water pipe, as long as its tight to the block and you can run some real fans.

Also, unless your running a stroker, your spool times are pretty optimistic. Looking at the tach and boost guage doesn't give you good results, neither does a regular logger... the logger updates too slow.
 
I have a T3 4 bolt .63 A/R turbine housing for my HX35 and I think its choking the turbo above 7K at 35psi. My airflow holds well, but my boost drops more than I like. I'd be interested to see whats available in a little larger housing myself. I already have a Turbonetics mani with 1/2" spacer so I should have enough room. I'd rather not change anything in my setup, but I can fab another tubular O2 housing if the turbine exit is larger.

Looking at the tach and boost gauge would probably send me into something I don't want to go into - that's why I have ECM link, it's much safer & smarter to keep all eyes on the street/track. The logger updates are too slow? What do you run? I'm pretty happy with ECM link & didn't think there really was anything better.
 
I saw a .70 A/R T3 3" Vband for the HX-35 on extremepsi. Will there be a noticeable difference up top going from .63 to .70? I switched from .55 BEP to .63 A/R T3 and I still choke out up top. I don't want the same marginal gain going from .63 to .70. I was thinking about seeing if there would be a .82 available unless that slows down spool by like 500-600 rpms. I currently see 30 psi by 4200, so I'm happy!

I machined a t4 .84 twin scroll turbine housing for q tuners member in florida this summer, there were issues getting parts to me and we had to do some postraql claims cause the box came missing some parts, but i got a complete turbo back to him and would love to hear how thaqt'/s working if it's on yet... i know thwe 35r housing i did for the h1c/hx40 was put into use and said to be awesome

i love my .63 single t3 turbine on hx35 turbine and 8 blade hx40 comp... broke trans at 31 psi and 522hp, and previousely best was 482@ 27-28psi, gpesny seem to choke to me, was roasting all 4 tires in first and 2nd last night taking a friend for a ride

i dont think a .70 would make too much difference for you in this case

With a 16cm^2 t3 housing on an hx40 6blade I see 20psi by 3900rpms and 37psi at 4800rpms. I agree, don't see why you would need anything but the stock divided housings.

get a 12cm T3 HX35 housing machined for your setup and you would spool up faster and it wouldn't hurt your top end.
These stock housing were designed for large displacement slow moving diesel engines thats why they are so large
 
So, is there any possibility of a TS T3 or T4 housing that is small enough to go spool around 2500-3200 for an HX35 and still pull through redline around 7500? That would be the best setup ever with a buttload of torque and horsepower.
