After sitting for 5 months, my 99 Eclipse GST won't let let me put gas into it. I have to reach under the car and squeeze the hose to get it to go in and I have no idea why. Any ideas or anyone with a similar problem?

im guessing there is a kink in the rubber boot or junk collected in the coupler that is restricting fuel flow causing the pump to kick off cause it thinks your tank is full.

take a look at the condition of the elbow and see whats going on.

the feed hose has a 3 flapper type valve allowing fuel to come in and not out through the feed hose (incase of a rollover),

im assuming this flapper might be clogged shut. to check this you should remove the rubber hose that connects the tank to the fuel feed pipe. at the end of the pipe you can inspect this flapper:

notice how I am pulling one flapper out to show you how it works. and the other picture is it closed. so what im saying is that your valve might have corroded shut or some foreign matter clogging it.

At first the flapper was sealed shut. I took off the hose right before the flapper then used a small rubber hose and fed it through and it felt like it was ok but it still won't take gas. I didn't have any light at the time so I couldn't get a good look at it. I'll pull the tank tomorrow and see how it looks. In the picture it looks like it's replaceable, is this correct???

Haha no, It hasn't been over 3/4 of a tank yet. Gas gauge seems to be working fine. The night before I got it tuned at RRE it took 45 minutes to fill that 3/4 of a tank. Drove the 120 miles back from RRE (wednesday night) and since then it hasn't been over 1/3 of a tank.

have you looked under the car or pulled the ds rear splash shield to look at the rubber portions of the hose yet to see if they are kinked.

The cap was on the whole time and I can see down the first portion of the filler neck so there is nothing stuffed inside. We pulled off the rubber hose Tuesday night and it wasn't kinked. Were goin to pull it off again and inspect the flapper to see what condition it is in and if there is anything blocking it further down.

I'm not 100% certain how the 2g fuel system is set up, but I had a Chevy Blazer come into my shop once with the same symptom. I ended up finding the EVAP canister vent valve (usually a valve that vents through a 5/8" hose and/or a filter) was stuck closed or clogged. This valve is normally open when the car is off, and this particular vehicle wouldn't accept fuel unless it was open.

Edit: Thinking about it, I think you guys have the canister up in front of the driver side front wheel, so the vent valve would probably be up there.

Well I am guessing also something to do with the EVAP system. Hate those damn systems that is why I love my smoke machine for EVAP leaks. Hell if you cant figure it out takes five minutes to pull the seat and fuel pump assembly and fill her that way LOLLOL. Good luck man and let us know if you figure it o

We deleted the whole evap and egr system. The line that used to go to the canister in the engine bay is uncapped right now so it should be fine, unless there is a valve before the canister that is closed for some reason.

Thank you born2tune!!! the vid wouldn't load at first so I couldn't see the it. I didn't realize the flapper was before the rubber hose, I thought it was after.

Took off the filler neck and there is no flapper. It's on the tank side after the rubber hose. I take it I have to drop the tank to get to it???

Im unaware of variances between gsx and gst as far as the filler neck goes or year/build date variation at that.(I know the differences of the tank it self but not filler neck).

You dont have to drop the tank just remove the filler neck, the hose and that should leave you with the neck of the tank, inspect that and go from there. the flapper should be able to wiggle off.

Im sure its something simple being overlooked.

This is the end of our filler neck that goes to the rubber hose on the tank side. No blockage in this hose. The other end of the rubber hose is above the lip of the tank and I can't get any tools up their to take the clamp off.

3 of the evap hoses were melted shut.

The 3 melted lines. They don't look melted but the insides were.

Just read that the 99 tank (aka mine) has the evap canister in the tank. I'm going to cap those and cut off the rest of the random stuff on the filler neck. born2tune, can you take a few pics or vid of where the fuel cutoff goes into the filler neck please??? Mine was not connected to anything and melted shut. I think the previous owner ran it open exhaust at the axle and melted a few hoses.

well i thought we had deleted all of the evap equipment on this car but i guess we only deleted the solenoid and vaccum lines in the engine bay. as for all of this crap thats at the back of the car, what can be done to delete as much of it as possible. what needs to be capped? removed? vented? also if anyone has Sam's number at RRE, it would be much appreciated. hahaha pm me if you have it. he tuned the car magnificently and just need to know if he tuned out the evap from the car.
typically its one of the first things turned off when tuning with DSMlink correct?

i guess i should state that before we put the car down for 5 months it still was a PITA to fill the tank, when pulling the trigger on the gas gun, you could only hold it for a couple seconds and then it would kick back, however fuel would still go into the car, now gas wouldnt even go into the tank unless you squeezed the filler neck rubber hose before the tank. i'm guessing the melted shut lines prevented the air to escape from the tank while the tank was being filled with fuel.

so what do i do to properly vent the tank so i can fill it up, and how do i delete evap canister and weird smog crap that goes with it?
