These guys know how to build a car. Checkout their site SuperLite Cars Made in the USA, Engineered to Win on the Street and Track by Race Car Replicas

PS - I am not in any way affiliated with RCR, found this info and wanted to pass the word :)

I'll say they do. Saw one of their cars at Hyperfest this weekend. Was very cool. No idea what kind of laps it was turning though.

I haven't been watching them race, but reading their announcements it sounds like they are walking competition. They recently had engine problems though :(

I did find some lap time info for you.

I just heard about the SLC today on SPEED.

SuperLite Cars Made in the USA, Engineered to Win on the Street and Track by Race Car Replicas

Went down that rabbit hole (and looking at pricing), then found this thread for cars that were made by Superlite.

The GT40 is insanely awsome looking! I think most of us consider ourselvs do-it-yourselfers and a kit car based off a 2g would be awsome.

I was trying to find more information on this car and I cant find too much more. It looks like this is a new project though by them and I can't wait to see the outcome.

This is a new car from RCR Superlite tagged the Superlite Apex. (was GTA) The release date is scheduled for Jan 1, 13'. I have posted a lot on that thread over there (Mr. Wolfe) and I am here to learn as much as I can about the 4g63 engine. If you have any questions about the car, I may be able to help.

They posted new photos of the 2G in that above linked post today. Funny seeing a 2g in there with all the new body styling around it.

p.s. reading their thread, it looks like they need help with 4g63 engines in a bad way WTF

Someone should sign up and direct them here. Dibs not me, I'm on my iPhone.

Its got a very Noble-esque front end. The rear IDK WTF happened there...someone had their eyes closed LOL.

This is looking positively awesome!

With Factory Five (a local to me company), releasing their Subaru WRX based 818 kit car, I was feeling a bit left out: I LOVE kits cars, but I just couldn't get over the Subaru part... So this IS THE ANSWER for us, DSM guys!!!

I don't know why, but I still check this site every few days to see if there were updates. Well I've been busy and missed the drop, but the demo car is getting finished up now and here are the pictures.

Wonder how they mounted the 4g63 in the rear, still super anxious! Even if people here don't buy their body panels, might get some good ideas how to build a gst into a mid engine dsm :thumb:

There is also the potential scare.. that we are going to have people scavenging around for gst/gsx just to cut them up for this kit car.

Either way, for those curious and those who havn't heard:

There is no downside to this kit! Sure, there might be a few DSM destroyed to build this car, but I can't imagine there would be a lot of them. And hopefully people will go for slightly beat up donor cars.

Why mid engine? Because it is THE best place to put a motor...

It is only a matter of time, but I definitely see one of these cars in my garage!

"Technically" the DSM will still be there, just hidden under the kit. And seeing how the kit covers most of the outside makes me think that most likely cars that will be used would be damaged (on the outside, but not structurally) just like you said. So if nothing else, this kit will save couple of DSMs from getting crushed.

Nothing new as far as photos are concerned. The company was in the process of moving to a new facility and hasn't posted an update on the Apex in a month.

They do not appear very committed to this project...

Factory Five ran their 818 project like an Internet blog, constantly asking their potential customers questions and posting frequent updates. Unfortunately, it is based on a Subaru and somehow, they manage to put a hideous front end on otherwise good looking car. So it is a non-starter for me, despite the fact that they are just down the street from me and my coworker will be receiving his in September. I was going to attend their open house today, but change in family plans prevented me.

Too bad Factory Five isn't doing this project. :(

I am very likely a future RCR Apex customer. My question is this:

I've done tons of searching about 420A's being converted to 4g63's. Everyone says don't do it because of the huge fabrication and wiring issues. With the RCR front and rear clips taking the majority of that out of the equation, why would I not want to just pick up a GS/RS for dirt cheap and just pay the core charge on a 6 bolt frankenstein engine and built transmission?

It sounds like the ECUs are virtually the same minus a few wires (and knock sensor) which is not "too" hard to takle. Repinning is tedious but doable. Some rewiring is likely anyways in this situation (sort of like a medium wire tuck job).

A mediocre GS-T is at least $3k whereas a mediocre (perhaps even not running) RS/GS can be had for under $1k. AWD's pull even more and a lot of that hardware is unusable anyways in this scenario. Also, finding a turbo car without a sunroof has proven extremely difficult. Nonturbo cars without sunroofs are much more readily available.

Quick list of redo anyway for an Apex:
Built 4g63
Build trans
High HP axles, or at least new OEMs
Compound turbo (love this idea, period!)
DSMLink EPROM conversion
Interior

Wrecked in the front: doesn't matter
Wrecked in the rear: might matter depending on severity

Thoughts or links to related threads would be very welcomed.

First of all, Fran decided to go through with this project!!!

Jason, there is no reason not to go with the NT donor, in fact, as a DSMer, I would prefer you cut up an NT, rather than clean turbo car :). IMO, condition of the car is more important if it is turbo or NT. I can see people picking up a cheap NT for the body and then a beat/rusted turbo car for the rest of the mechanics.

It is too early to talk about axle upgrades because Fran hasn't decided which transmission he will use (AWD vs FWD).

Hey Leon,

I'm one of those checking the Apex thread 10 times a day from the beginning. I've read as much as I can about DSMs and love this idea. This forum just has SOOO much stuff on it, I can't seem to find the threads which confirm how/why to get a NA car. I've spent hours reading through my searches but I think I just don't know enough about this platform to narrow it correctly. Would/could you either PM me some applicable info or post it in here?

The ECU is what I was worried about the most. I've heard some say it is just a Neon ECU and other say it's a GS-T/X with a few wires missing. Which is it? I've even though about MegaSquirt but everyone swears by LINK.

Nice to see another fellow Apex follower :D

Im hoping for midengine rwd. Damn thatd b awesome. If its a true 2 seater theres plenty of room to do this
