Hey guys, has anyone ever tooken out the pistons from the bottom of the block? If the crank is out can they be removed and put back in? I don't want to take off the head, but it there is no other way I will, just asking tho, might save me some time, thanks

The main webbing of the crank is in the way, no way to get them out.
Even if you could, when you wanted to put them back in... how would you get the ring compressor up in there?

Pull the head.

This might be okay if it was higher compression pistons from a junked car to be reinstalled from the TOP into another car, but then again i don't have a spare Evo motor to check for under-removal.

spyder.... I can not think of a single engine, 4cyl, V6, L6 or V8 that you can pull the pistons out from the crank side of the block

The crank/ main webbing is in the way on all of them, yes you may get a bit of the piston to slide out from the bottom, but then it will catch on the main webbing.

But I dont know much either, I have only tore apart 5000? 6000? who know how many engines in my life......

Baby numbers. You have much to learn. :p

Good info on the webbing. Just adding another chirp in there - Pull the head. Check the cylinder walls while you're there. It's likely time for a timing belt and head gasket change anyhow.

IF you spun the rod bearing than the rod will have to come out and be machined. You could theoretically pull the crank if you removed the transmission, flex plate, rear seal retainer, oil pump and oil pan. Being that the pistons and rods need to come out you just need to go ahead and pull the whole engine.
