I have a 97 gst with an act 2100 (installed by previous owner) about 2 months ago every once and a while I would hear a knocking noise. I thought it was a pulley, so I changed my t-belt and pulleys ect. (needed done anyways) and its still there. I noticed today that the noise will go away with the clutch pressed in. Also there is a constant chirping/high pitched noise in the engine bay. And the last symptom I have that may be related is an odd clicking as I accelerate through first gear (only until ~3k rpms) I'm pretty sure it's the throwout bearing now. I just wanted to be sure though I don't want to pull the trans and that not be the problem.

Another thing, If it is the throwout bearing I will order an OEM one but I've not really positive on what clutch. I was thinking of the ACT 2100/ Fidanza Flywheel combo on exreme psi but I would like some suggestions as well.

Most performance clutches have a chatter to them to an extent. My talon and rx8 have that and the 8 is stock. This covers the chatter noise that stops when you push in the clutch as that is normal.

As for the other noises, the second may be your crank shaft pulley, if stock, trying to separate. Check it to see if the large pulley part (alternator) is seperating from the smaller pulley. If it is, get a different one as the stock is a poor design and will keep doing this over time.

The last noise, I am not sure of and could be caused, in part by the second noise. Hard to say unless there in person and see/hear it.

I am not saying your TB is good or bad as it could be going bad. The chatter is normal with that kind of clutch system. The 3rd noise could be the TB.

The first is normal to an extent. The second could be the crank pulley or a pulley going bad on one or more of your accessories (if belts were too tight at one time or another) Last could be the TB but, unless you take out the trans, cannot really say for sure. If you are going to drop the tans, replace it anyway and check your fork, fork pivot ball, and tangs that hold the TB as well. Replace any bent or worn parts as needed and do it right the first time. :)

For the first noise I have read that it is normal to have noise to an extent but This noise I have is every once and a while. It's a loud knocking you can hear from 4-5 feet away. I also heard that ACT TOB's are known to be junk, and that's what is in there.

Sounds like it could be the TB. One way to find out. I would put a stock one in. Did you check your balancer/pulley?

it's the throw out bearing my friend... I have the SAME exact EVERYTHING that you just explained..

I have a aftermarket clutch/TOB setup, and the TOB is junk..
But also there is a little clatter because of it being a aftermarket clutch as well.

Ooooold thread but I'm hoping someone will see this. Having the chirping/rattling noise same as OP. Sound goes away when clutch is pushed in. It sounds like a CHCHCHCHCHCHCHCH noise. Car only has idle time with a 6 puck clutch in it (unsure of the brand, bought from PO with it). Thanks!
