MAP Eco "Economy Series" Front Mount Intercooler Kit (2G DSM)

With features like 2.5" mandrel bent polished aluminum piping, 3 ply fiber reinforced silicone couplers and with stainless steel t-bolt clamps, this intercooler kit represents one of the best value modifications for your 2G DSM. This kit provides minimal pressure drop and efficient cooling for almost any entry to mid level performance built application. The intercooler piping utilizes the shortest routing possible and comes flanged for a 1g DSM blow off valve.
This kit comes complete and ready to install, including the items listed below. Installation is straight forward, requiring slight modification of the factory radiator support to allow the upper intercooler to pass by the radiator
This kit was designed to fit downward facing turbos or factory style 14b/16g type turbos with the use of a "J" pipe designed for front mount intercoolers (J-Pipe not included). Garrett turbos such as the T-25 or T-28 can also fit with minor modification (U-pipe or cutting the elbow and re-welding/coupling to face driver side).
Please note this kit is flanged for the 1G DSM BOV. If you need this modified, please call us to speak with a salesman about your needs as we do offer services to alter the kit for specific fitments, but special flange options are built to order and may incur additional charges !
Kit Contents
Intercooler Core: Bar & Plate
Intercooler Core Dimensions: 28.5"x10"x3.5"
Piping Material: Polished Mandrel Bent Aluminum
Piping Size: 2.5"
Couplers & Clamps: Blue 3 Layer Fiber Reinforced Silicone Hoses & Stainless Steel T-Bolt Clamps
Installation Notes:
This kit is designed to be an easy, straight forward installation process, however fitment from car to car can vary due to varriances in vehicle configurations. Some vehicles may need trimming of either the supplied lower intercooler pipe to intercooler or the lower intercooler pipe itself to allow clearance to certain oil filter bracket designs.
Material must be removed from the radiator support on the passenger side to allow fitment of the upper intercooler pipe. We recommend removal of the "excess" triangular metal closest to the radiator, trimming along the metal frame as flush as possible.
The core has mounts for mouting directly to the radiator support in factory bolt locations but these do not come pre-drilled. This will allow you to shift the intercooler core around for your fitment needs.

Any chance of a 1g based kit with the same sized core? (The CXRacing and Pun. Racing) kits both use the smaller "street" sized core.

Believe it or not, I AM working on a 1g variation. We currently have a larger size front mount for the 1g that is capable of being ordered. It is a style where the pipe crosses over the core and back to the same side.

Not trying to turn this into a comparison thread by any means- what sets this kit aside from some of the others on the market with a similar design? More efficient core? Better couplers / clamps?
I believe this is the absolute best routing for a 2G; I have a similar setup on my daily-driver GSX that was a total budget job. A good buddy of mine loves this type of kit and is currently looking for an identical setup for his '95 TSi AWD although he's shooting for performance over price- you may earn his business if you can confirm this to be a worthy investment for him.

It looks like in the pic under the car that you will be able to keep your fogs. Do you have any pics without the front bumper cover on and the IC installed? ^ +2 on specs on performance.

Just wondering... how is this a budget economy version, when the VRSF kit is shortest route piping, and is only $280. (no j pipe) While this one, has the same design piping with the same style intercooler... for $400. (still no j pipe)

This one might actually be in stock when you order it, whereas others take 8 weeks to ship, lol.

Not trying to compare apples to apples here but this intercooler kit looks exactly like others already on the market. What makes this one special?

Wow we have a lot of questions on this kit over the weekend which is encouraging.
To answer some of the questions that stand out in my mind:
Yes, the kit will appear similar in design to many kits out there...It's a good, efficient design with short routing, and a good intercooler...it makes sense. Additionally this is an outsourced kit...we do not manufacture it in house, although we do offer services to make modifications and we will continue to develop the kit moving forward. The core is slightly different tho...not quite the same, but I think the references to other kits out there will probably be obvious...again...I think it is more a design necessity that dictates the way this kit is designed.
Availability is one of the key components to this kit like Jax mentioned above...I do not foresee any supply line issues...at least on paper...it really depends on the volume that ends up coming from this kit, which I could not predetermine but at this point, all signs point to regular availability.
Lastly, in regards to pricing...the RETAIL price point is 399.99 which is correct...however it seems my website guy actually listed that price...the real world pricing will start at 299.99 and I have accordingly adjusted the price.
As for real world results...this is currently on MY 2G...I will have to get back to you on how this kit stacks up to other kits out there...but doing some street adjustments have proven very encouraging. I'll get it on the rollers here in the near future for more definitive data...but this isn't the only car I own and I actually HAVE to switch back to my other 2 vehicles to get them rolling again which will likely tie up a couple of weekends.
Nate

Also...you 1G guys are covered. I have to do some test fitting of some final samples and verify fitment so barring any unforeseen issues, I have to say that I feel we will be offering another competitive series of options for the 1g's SOON.

Why would you not go short route on the 1g?

What CFM numbers and pressure loss are you looking at with these kits? I've been looking for the right kit.

That's a great price for this kit! I'm thinking I might switch to this as the piping would be even shorter than the kit I have now.

It's hard to say with the 1g kits as I am still working on final fitment...but the 2g kits will not allow the use of fog lights without modification. You would have to do some trimming of the fog light housings to make them work...that being said, it is possible, but I havent done it yet. I am planning to do so and will be doing a write up.
