This my sound stupid but you do have the FP manifold and you are turbo right?
Your avatar says otherwise...
As far as effectiveness; im running without a heatshield on my FP right now and before the FP mani went on I had a evo3 manifold with a sbr heatshield and the engine bay temps have sky rocketed.
If im sitting in traffic for too long or at idle, my entire engine bay will be heatsoaked.
This much heat could detinitly effect the tune in terms of knock threshhold and air density. Luckily i have a cold air intake ran outside the engine bay or my IAT's would be up there.
Not to mention running with no heatshield provokes altenator or P.S. pump failure.
It would only seem logical to run a heatshield on a daily driven car.
I missed the group buy but i am ordering mines today.
Screw the bling factor, Its going to be a hot summer and i wouldnt want to be without one of these while driving as much as i do.

I always put all my stickers under the bottom side of the hood like the old muscle cars do.
Cant see myself putting any of that stuff on the outside of the car. That would get ricey real quick...

Anyone got a picture of theres installed with the j-pipe? Does it touch your j-pipe? I have mine on, it just doesn't look right. I am going to mess with it tonight as I was in a hurry to get it on there.

I started with one half of the "O" assembled and hooked around the internal gate's waste gate actuator without the heat shield in the mix (at first)... line up the other long bolt and start with it part way through the actual heat shield... one it's started, then back out the first long bolt and rethread it through the other half of the heat shield.
Once that happens (and after a few heat cycles) then you might end up in my boat with this:

The one I'm using is actually JM's original prototype. Mine has held up just fine and Ive had no issues with heat in the engine bay. I do have one of the bollts backing out on occassion, but that is due to my own fault as I lost the lock washer. The other bolt that still has the lock washer remains snug.

To be honest I have never run into this issue, the lock washers will usually prevent this from happening. If you still have issues down the road PM or email me and I can send you some new lock washers or even locking nuts to put on the backside.
Thanks,
Jim

Jim, I haven't had any heat issues yet with my car. But I've only owned the GSX for a month, and being this is AZ the heat is cming soon and I want to be prepared. So I've checked all the post to see if anyone has hard numbers as to the effectiveness of the shields. But can't fing anything but people happy to have more shine under the hood. Please help. Do they lower underhood temps 5 degrees, 10 degrees, etc? Thanks.

I finally got the chance to go to the track with the manifold and drive it around a bit. With the heat shield on, there is a definite loss of underhood temps. The underside of my CF hood used to get blazing hot and would seep over towards the power steering area, but with the shield, it has drastically reduced the amount of heat coming from the manifold.

Yes the heatshield is designed to lower underhood temps around the manifold area so that it will not melt parts close by. I would say easily by 20°+, it will vary with every car.
