What axactly is timing? When the spark sparks? I'm not sure about the whole degree thing.

Also is it really useful for a 2G or should I just hold out until something better comes out? I'm in no hurry since I havn't even install my exhaust yet, need a boost gauge and egt. Right now I just have a apexi intake and killer stereo :)

Ingnition timing advance is shown in degrees before top dead center. So if you are getting 20 degrees, the ECU lights the spark plug 20 degrees crank rotation before the piston reaches top dead center. The higher the rpm, the more advance you need. The flame has to be started earlier since pisotn speed is higher.

Any type of datalogger is a great investement at any point in your mod list. Just keep in mind that to really do anythingwith it you need fuel control too. The cost of a palm, pocketlogger, and AFC is the same as a DSM link. So if you have or can get a EPROM ECU I would consider DSMlink, otherwise pocketlogger and AFC got the job done for me for a long time, and well into the 12s on my 14b.
