Mine does, open up your cable and check if the chip says FTDI 232BL. The VAG 409.1 is the same as EvoScans 1.4 cable.

Your pretty close to me, if you want to test your cable on my setup, you could sometime.

I have the ebay cable, and I can get it to work with scantech, but on the new version of mhiscan I get an 00 00 error code. I then tried it on the first version of mhiscan, and it would connect, but after 1 second, the Windows Vista pop up that says I have to close the program comes up. I then tried it on my other car, and the same thing. One car is a 97 gst spyder, and the other one is a 97 gsx.

Tried it on a friends computer (nice dell, only a year old with vista pro) and although I got the drivers to install correctly, it still reads the same way in mitsulogger and mhiscan, 'Serial <-> USB', and I get the same initialization issues, as if the cable isn't there. Completely out of ideas here.

I haven't had a lot of time lately to work on MHIScan, been concentrating on making a definition for the Flashable ECUs.

Also sold off a lot of my different year ECUs for funds for some new parts.

I will try to get the Init Sequence problem fixed soon, if you need a logger check out: EvoScan, MitsuLogger, and Scantech. I posted info about them previously in this thread.

After I get this 14b swap & external wastegate installed... its logging & street tuning time. Hopefully you get those kinks out. Read up on some Einstein stuff, I'm sure he did some out of the ordinary things to give his genius mind a break in order to bake a break through

Ceddy, not sure how much of the code on 97+ ECUs you've dissected, but can you verify and list any of the differing requestIDs for those of us with the later ECUs? The big one I think everyone's wanting to know are the different requestIDs for logging knock.

KnockSum on a 95-97 the RequestId should be 3E
KnockSum on a 98-99 the RequestId should be 26

I haven't have time to work on MHIScan lately, I've been concentrating on the 98/99 Flashable ECUs, they have amazing potential.

Anyone who needs a logger I highly recommend EvoScan, its a great logger for $25.

97-99 guys can use any of the Evo Loggers out there.

Some good software to check out:
EvoScan
ScanTech OBD
MitsuLogger
MUTMonitor
Innovate LogWorks with MUT or OBD2 plug-in

I've tried all of these loggers, with the exception of Mitsulogger. I cannot seem to download the file in it's entirety, and have tried many times. I don't end up with a .zip file, what I get is a file which is not recognized/usuable at all.

Can someone with a working copy of Mitsulogger please PM me, so that I can get it from you by email? Thanks!

We'll need more information than that to help you. What operating system are you running on your laptop (xp/vista/windows7)? Is there any error message? What exactly happens when you try to run the executable?

Honestly this is Ceddy's realm. I have no idea what the actual problem is but in general if this were on my computer I would start by moving the executable to the desktop and trying again. If that didn't work I would right click and "run as administrator". There may be something I'm missing but it is maybe worth trying.

I am no longer supporting or developing MHIScan.
I've posted multiple times some good alternatives.

Ceddy has made it quite clear that he isn't interested in finishing this project so those features will likely never develop. There was never a stable or finished release so no don't expect it to be fully functional. At this point Ceddy is doing IMO much more important work with maintaining and expanding the definitions and capabilities of the 98/99 DSM ecu.

Ceddy, since you've stopped development on MHIScan (and for good reason, you've obviously got more interesting stuff going on with the later H8 ECUs), would you be willing to do a release of the source for v3 (or whatever intermediate state the code is in at this point), so that someone else could step up and continue work?

(You never know until you ask. At the very least, it would be a shame to see the effort you put into working out the hybrid protocol stuff disappear.)

The Hybrid Protocol or MUT over OBD, is an extension of the OBD2 protocol.

It uses the standard ISO OBD2 Init sequence, but instead of the 1-10 OBD modes it uses mode A0. Then it does a MUT Table Lookup using using the OBD RX and TX sequences.

Because it uses the OBD2 pause between bytes and pauses between messages its limited to about 10 samples per second.

If someone was interested in continuing the project I would share my source, but I wouldn't call my code clean.

Ew. Suddenly, the aversion to MUT-over-OBDII is very clear to me, and I see why a replacement protocol was such a high priority for Tom and Dave.

Is that seriously how a MUT tool talks to those ECUs? What a shame. Do you know offhand if the H8 ECUs support hybrid mode (or a variation of it)?

I don't think anyone has any misconceptions about code cleanliness; everyone who does these kinds of projects does them as a side thing, and "doing it the right way" is always a feature for the next version.

(You should see what my hacky SH2 disassembler looks like right now; your head would explode. But as soon as I've got it tracking register JSRs properly and producing output that can be fed to gas, it's getting released. )

The DSM H8s support:
OBD2,
Hybrid: MUT over OBD2
and MUT3.

They also have:
1953 baud setting like the 1G ALDL protocol,
and 62500 baud like CAN.

I'm not sure if these are ever used, they might be part of a generic serial communications library or something.

I knew they'd do MUT-III, just wasn't sure about the hybrid protocol; thanks for confirming! It means my '99 ECU might work for some testing if I get motivated enough to get a bench configuration set up. (Winter is coming, and I'm not going to be sitting in the Evo just to test comms and code changes. )

I know that Ceddy has moved on to new plans. But can somebody that got their MHIScan working help me get mine running. I'm trying to do it myself but I don't know how...
I Downloaded the MHIScan and also the .Net framework file and got the MHIScan opening on my computer, I got the blue Ebay cable Ceddy mentions. But I don't know hot to incorporate it to the MHIScan. He says to install a driver, That's where I got lost I didn't know how to do that.

Can somebody show me how to do that with a little more details, am I supposed to go to the Ross-tech web site and download a specific file too?

Thanks for the help. I really want to give this logger a try.

If you guys are looking for another free logger for mitsus, then get MitsuLogger.

It's setup for Evo's but I've used it numerous times. One thing you will want to change is the knock address, which should be 38 on a DSM.
