How difficult is DSMLink to use? If someone can tune with an AFC, would they experience trouble transitioning to DSMLink? I am not very tuning literate but my friend is very experienced with AFCs and loggers. I personally see the benefit of using DSMLink in place of the logger and the AFC. I already have a both a Palm and 2 laptops. He has the logger software. Should I just stay with an AFC cause thats all I need for basic tuning? Planning on running either the EVO16g or AGP RS49 with 660's and supporting mods. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance :dsm:
 
DsmLink is the greatest thing since sliced bread. It is simple to use once you understand all that it can do. It comes with a couple of manuals and a great forum to help out with any issues. I wished I would have gotten first before I began upgrading so it would be easier for me to see how each upgrade affected engine performance because if you don't know how your engine is doing stock its hard to figure out if an upgrade took it way off base or not. But I love it and haven't had any issues with it.
 
I would point out that DSMLINK is *NOT* an AFC, you are modifying the fuel and timing maps in the ECU instead of "fooling" the ECU to read lower than normal air readings like you do with an AFC. The DSMLINK user's guide is freely downloadable from their webpage, read through it to see more about what it does. It really is an amazing tool, get the link and a wideband and you will be set :thumb:

I just got dsmlink like 3 days ago. and it is truely phenominal... I don't come from tuning w/ AFC but w/ MAFT but the consept is the same. I had to "detune" my brain from working w/ maft (piggybacks) to working w/ the ecu. In other words, I don't need a translator to suck the ecu into doing something it doesn't know its doing. I can communicate directly w/ the ecu and tell it what i want in terms I understand and the ecu then goes and does it :thumb:

EDIT: BTW, getting the ecu to do something that it doesn't know it's doing can get you into trouble, i.e. safc: makes ecu run high timing at high boost because you told the ecu that there is less air coming into the engine so that you can lean it out :notgood: .
 
I'm half way through reading the Users guide for DSMLink from their website that I downloaded and printed today. It doesn't seem to be that hard, so far... Lots of good things on it I like though, especially the 'you don't have to lift your foot off the gas to change gear' feature. :thumb:
 
My car was slow with it running 11:1. Then I bumped up the timing in DSMLink and it's A LOT faster. Not much adjustment can be made for that on a SAFC.
 
Download their manual on dsmlink.com and see for yourself. It looks pretty damn simple to use in my book.
