Nova,
hey, anybody have any small tricks or tips for passing emisssions w/ 510s, 16G and no AFC (for a while). I will be putting on the stock mirage turbo exhaust which is maybe a measly 2 inches or so and does have a cat, but I still think that I would be rich. Thoughts.......

Is there any way that I can do it w/o having to buy 450s?

Unless.... you know anyone in the Northern VA area who is a dishonest emissions man, wink wink.

There used to be this guy that would just stick the sensor in the tail pipe of another car, he was the shiznit.

run 30% racing alcohol gas and you can pass any emissions test.
my set up passed :)

What is in the FuelOn stuff? It looks like snake oil form their website :p

Also, is it possible to pass emissions if you have a S-AFC to control you aftermarket turbo and injectors? How difficult?

get the shop to plug the probe into the tailpipe of a honduh;)

hehe...he said plug it in the tailpipe:p

I passed with 660s, AFC, No Cat..... idleing like crap due to a vac leak (puking out black smoke)......

barely passed... but I did pass...

Note: I welded the heat sheild from my old stock cat to my "test pipe" to make it look like I had a cat for the visual inspection.

Then again, this was only an idle test, we don't have AWD rollers out here.

You probably will never, ever pass with 510s and no AFC. 510s are spitting out 13% more fuel than your car can actually use through the entire range of an emissions test.

Here is the never fail way to pass:

run stock injectors (or AFC set negative to the exact amount the injectors are sized over stock on the low settings across the board, in your case -13%, run the throttle points at 65/95)
run BPR6ES plugs
change oil, use a heavier wieght on an older car
put cat back in
run a bottle of "Guaranteed to Pass" (actual name of product - this stuff is really unbelievable, I have no idea how it works but it does)

You should not be able to fail at that point unless your rings/valve guides/turbo seals are totally wasted and you are puffing oil out.

i think i have the best way of passing emissions tests...i live in a state that doesn't requre them...ha ha ha...

There are 3 vaccuum hoses at the top of the throttle body. If you disconnect the middle hose your tubo will not spool up. This is the way I get my car to pass emissions.

You can always move Louisiana and even if you don't have a cat, have thick black smoke pouring out of your open down pipe, and turned your radials into slicks doing burnouts you can still pass. You might have to try more than one place but you will pass somewhere. Nobody really gives a sh!t about inspection here.

UM just a suggestion but block of the EGR valve with a 1/8 inch thick piece of sheet metal, i heard and so i follewed it, but its said to lower the combustion chamber temperature, and lower the hydrocarbons, and some other carbon stuff, they show how to do it on the VFAQ's i think. or that myzero place. check it out let me know if it helps any at all

Yup! i live in louisiana and it cant get much easier here dude!

like 80% of the state besides new orleans hasnt never seen a modified car past intake and exhaust....

dam people and their civics down here!!!

I do emissions testing in VA. Actually, the EGR valve is used to cool the temperature of the combustion chambers to control NOX. HC is unburned fuel,CO is partially burned fuel, the EGR has no effect on these. NOX is only produced under load,so for example if the car is AWD and is undergoing a two-speed idle test,it will have no bearing on the results (but it better be on for the visuall part of the inspection! LOL since it will only be testing for HC and CO. Since your car is FWD,it will be run on the dyno. What you will see with your current setup is high HC numbers, but your NOX levels will be low because the extra fuel is cooling combustion. Once you lean it out the HC will drop, but the NOX levels will rise, but if your timing (too high of timing will increase NOX) is ok,and if the EGR is working properly,it should come into specs. Id put the stock injectors back in,or get an AFC,as well as putting the cat back on. If the o2 sensor is old or dead from frequently using race gas,Id replace it too because it will cause a rich condition as well. Drive the car around a bit and get it good and warm before you take it to be tested, running it fairly hard wouldnt hurt either,it will help get the cat up to temperature. If the car is in otherwise good state of tune, theres no reason it wont pass.
