nos..how bad is it really?

A properly installed, metered, and operated nitrous oxide system (any brand) will not harm your vehicle. Most nitrous oxide related engine failures occur from improper install (kit not hooked up correctly, saftey items not installed ie- WOT switch, RPM limiter/ window switch,etc...) improper metering of nitrous oxide injection (using jets that supply more nitrous than the motor can handle, lack of fuel, too much fuel, and too much timing advance,etc...) and improper operation (running into rev/ speed limiters while injecting, engaging injection before 2500 RPM, overrevving motor using nitrous, no understanding of operation, etc...) I have had tons of experience running and installing nitrous oxide systems in cars ranging (sp?) from bone stock to full race. I have no significant failure directly related to the system (other than clutches and the like) unless the above errors have been involved (except install :D .) Any questions you may have I will address (I subscribed to this thread.) If I don't know the answer, I will be happy to find out for you. (unless of course you haven't done any of the basic research.) Installing a nitrous oxide system is like installing any other power adder it take tuning, know-how, and you run the same risk of engine damage. That's all for now... Joe

funny how you wanted hi ofcr, tonight i went to the local car meet and was getting ready to line up to race some accord. It was a huge meet to, probably around 150 cars...which is huge to me...it was only my second attendance....but anyways im lining up and the car that was behind me was a cop...didnt know till he flipped on his lights and siron...so what did i do?...i floored it of course......and never saw him again..the scene reminded me a lot of fast and furious when race got broken up. there were people running everywhere and even a helicoptor. Dont cops got anything better to do?

Turbo_Guru
i have a 92 talon esi..
which nitrous system do you recommend and what exactly are all of the parts i need to get to make this thing work right.. i don't want to harm ne thing but i want a nitrous system because it's nice and cheap and i have access to free refills of nitrous.. i work for a gases company!! :D
thanks for any help you can give me

I personally use the NOS systems kits often and like them very much, it is up to you which manufacturer you choose but I will base my recommendation off of this (NOS) kit.

NOS Kit Part # 05123 (Dry 40-60 shot kit)
(System Requirements
The EFI kits are designed for use with engines that are basically stock. A stock fuel pump should be adequate, however many pumps decline performance over the years and it is important to have a fuel pump that meets NEW specs. Use only premium grade pump gasoline (92+ octane) or unleaded racing fuel. In many instances, a high output ignition and freer-flowing exhaust system may benefit performance. Do not use aftermarket chips or other devices that advance ignition timing, as detonation may occur.)

NOS Remote Bottle Control Valve Part # 16058
(optional, I like the convienience and safety aspects of not having to get out of the car to turn the bottle on and off.)
(Note: You should never leave the bottle open when not in use. It may damage the solenoids and pressurized lines.)

MSD RPM Activated Window Switch part # pn8596
(Note: This will prevent the system from engaging below 2500 RPMs which can damage your engine and will allow you to set the upper rev limit for the system to prevent overrevving the engine while operating the system. The upper limit should be set just below or at the factory rev limit to avoid injecting nitrous oxide when the rev limit is accidentally engaged.)

(Note: When installing the system be sure to use teflon paste not teflon tape.)

thank you sooooooooo much for all ur help..
i won't be the one installing it however cuz i haven't a clue.. i know about engines and such a thing but i'd rather have trained mechanic do the work..
how do you use the nos?? does it only boost you when you accelerate or do you just kick it and take off.. sorry if i sound like a moron but i have no idea never heard been in a car with it.

hey how bout loc tite.

"oh and where are some places to order from?"

This a purely subjective question because I am in west central Florida and have no idea about any shops in your area, however, you could ask the forum sponsors and see if they could help you.

"hey how bout loc tite."

Where exactly would you suggest loc-tite? You should (IMHO) never use loc-tite on any AN fittings.

Hope this helps... Joe

How much would all those parts for that kit cost and with having those preventatives there shouldnt be any harm to the engine?

P.S. you can use it too. I kinda made it for all NT DSM'rs. I was thinking about getting a small decal of it made also.

mikeydsm said, "How much would all those parts for that kit cost and with having those preventatives there shouldnt be any harm to the engine?"

As I stated above, "This a purely subjective question because I am in west central Florida and have no idea about any shops in your area, however, you could ask the forum sponsors and see if they could help you..." so prices may vary. And as I stated before at great length above, "A properly installed, metered, and operated nitrous oxide system (any brand) will not harm your vehicle."

if you make a decal of that.. ship one my way for sure!!!!! i even have my nt advertised.. check out the bump on my hood in the pic.. : )
as for purchasing.. nos is illegal around here.. will never find it.. so could you help me with places to get it on the net.. if i buy it around here i'll have to register it and get a liscense to have it and all that other mumbo jumbo...
thanks

You can get a ZEX kit on eBay...probably the cleanest and easiest kits to install. They have can warmers, remote valve openers, purge kits....everything you can want for a good system. Just search for

ZEX Nitrous

on any search engine. You'll find on-line distributers. Some people hate them, some people love them. I'm kinda Blah myself, but it is really the easiest system for a newbie to install and use. A good Venom kit is probably too advanced and expensive to start with.

Zex kits are crap, they dyno their kits to the crank, so a 50 shot will be more like a 35 and a 75 more like a 55 or 60. Once you add the 20 lbs for a bottle, plus roughly 3 pounds for the weight of the gas, plus probably about 10 pounds for other hardware, your horse to weight ratio for your "50" shot is only about 1:1 and the "75" shot is only about 2:1 (for just the nitrous, doesn't count car weight obviously.) I've also heard bad things about the quality of their kits and their customer service. Thats part of the reason the are clean and easy to install. If you are going to get a nitrous kit get NOS from holley or Nitrous Express. I would get Nitrous Express and get their Carbon Fiber Bottle, I keep hearing more and more good things about NX

A friend of mine also has a venom vcn1000 kit on his 97 RS, he can smoke LT1's now. I have a NOS kit, running a 150 shot.
