Without the air filter attached the engine wont even run right. It will hesitate all the time, jerk back and forth, wont go over 2K rpms, and will have no power. I had my intake tube pop off and that is what happend. So decide for yourself and save your engine.

yeah what this guy said^, i had one pop of on me and pushing the gas was like pushing a brick. It will actually make you slower.

It should run fine without it. just as long as your MAS reads the air entering the engine.

LOL it wont run wtf u ppl crazy???If u just remove filter but keep ur MAF attached u ll have no problem it will run as it was with filter and yea ai ll get better flow but i dont think it will make any diference cuz if u use good filter the flow is pretty much same.

If you would have read our post you would notice that we said that our tube popped off not just the filter. But nontheless I would not recommend running without one. Maybe just at the track or something but not all the time. Its there for a reason.

So then your previous post did not even pertain to the original post...being his question was specifically about JUST the filter and not the entire tube. Thanks for wasting everyone's time....:thumb:

It wasnt a waste of everyones time because its the closest i have ever come to driving my car without an air filter and thats the info i wanted to pass along. So post nazi:shhh:

I know this may be a stupid question, BUT, what would happen if for example I don't run a air filter? I dont really live in a dusty part of the country...

Just wondering, thanks. :)

If the only mod you did is the "honey comb noise reducing thing" then you'll run like shit. That's only if your n/t uses a mas setup, I'm not sure. But I do know, if little rocks and stuff get into your engine, you could mess up your valves and could get leaking valves. I'm sure theres alot of other reasons why NOT to do it. G'luck.

I would highly recomend NOT doing that. As the purpose of the air filter is to keep bits of dirt out of the engine and it doesn't take much to start damaging parts. If you are looking to get more air flow i would recomend an aftermarket airfilter or K&N as they seem to work very well

hope that helped

it doesnt give you a huge hp gain, just a 4" intake thats what i had on my rs did fine by me untill i upcraded.

It would suck in a huge bumblebee, and that would get into the crankshaft, causing you to spin a bearing.WTF

hehe seriously bad idea, there are microscopic particles, and dirt that you don't see.

It literally could cost you an engine.

Agree with all of the above.
An absolute "no-no". :nono: I wouldn't even consider it..............Ever. Even for a five-minute drive around the block. :notgood:

Just to clarify, running without an airfilter is a Bad Idea. You could suck all kinds of things into your engine that could do Horrible Things. You ever see the video where that mechanic got sucked into the turbine of..what was it? a Harrier or an A6? ...yeah, just like that. OMG

This question reminds me of when I first started looking for an Eclipse. I found an ad that said "90,000 mi! Clean! Strong Engine!" blah, blah, blah - the usual BS. When I got there to check it out, not only did I find that the car had 250,000 mi. on it, there was no air filter whatsoever - just a straight pipe running to the intake manifold. If you were there when I started it, you would know immediately exactly why not to do this.

The engine shook so much, I would've been afraid of suspension failures. Anything and everything that was in the engine bay got sucked into that poor motor. I can't even imagine what the internals must have looked like.

That's just sad. :toobad: That poor car WTF

yah i think its a baad idea now. k i wont do it. i want to get one of those things from machv motorsports, those N/T aluminum air intake pipes with high flow air filter, man they are $$$ tho. mabe some day.

Sheerly out of curiosity, why exactly were you wondering what would happen if you ran w/o an air filter? Were you thinking that it would be a hp gain or something?

I'm just wondering ;)
