Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour - Ames
My SCCA section set up a small autox course (~20secs) at this year's Power Tour stop in Ames, so I went and participated.
Now for those who don't know, the Power Tour is basically a muscle car fest. A place to show off high-displacement, naturally aspirated (sometimes supercharged) American cars. There were only two people there representing the 4g63; myself, and an evo.
So I figured I'd make these "no replacement for displacement" fanatics eat their philosophy. And I did a pretty good job. I was running around 18.6 seconds, with my best being an 18.51, and there were only a handful of cars running below me, most of them being Corvettes (figures). People would roll up next to me in line, and condescendingly ask what I was running... and would pause after I told them, trying to think of something to say to vindicate themselves of their higher times. Most of the time, the comments involved AWD.
I was on my DD setup... spare in, trunk board in, recommended street tire pressures... and was whomping on 5+ liter engines like there's no tomorrow. Felt good to say the least.
