Winter 07/08 Projects and Plans?

Those numbers all over the place Kyle. Yeah, a new truck payment can eat away at your racing budget cant it? I just started working on my budget for this season over the weekend. Its like running a business sometimes you know? But thats the way I look at it and treat it....Business.

Basics though - did well in the autox, fastest fwd that I know of. Beat many of the rwd and awd cars there, drags though my car dropped from a 13.1 on a 2.1 60' @ 112.5 mph to a 14.5 @ 99 on a 2.6 60'.

Ran a cold compression test after towing it back home from the event and found 125-110-75-120 on it. Gonna call it a season til I get another motor in. Good luck man, any interesting plans for the build? You could always just throw in a stock block and call it a day until you eventually get the money to do a nice build.. I also thought about going this way, but I figured the extra 1000 bucks just for decent internals was worth it as ill be throwing a BW s256 turbo on her as soon as she is together.

Well the motor won't be getting anything stupid fancy. I've already been in talks with a guy for a 2g piston 6 bolt, and my other option is getting some Mahle 8.8's from JNZTuning and throwing those in a freshened block. I just don't think I want to run the nt block anymore with out the squirters so I'll probably just go to the full turbo block to help keep the piston skirts cool either way.

I literally put this current motor together 3 years ago for $250 in bearings, gaskets, and seals along with some parts I had laying around at the time. Can't complain that it's still running 15,000 miles and 3 years later as it certainly wasn't babied and was even daily driven for like 6 months last year.

Thats funny Andy. I look at it like this. If I treat it like a business and run it like a business....Its a business. Makes it easier for me to keep track of funds going out and in you know? Tight budgets around here these days. Only 4 1/2 months before the 1st round of the 08-09 season and I want to be able to get at least 2 testing sessions in with all the upgrades before that happens. So I really only have about 2 months to get the car together, get all the finances in order and get to the track.

Not bad at all Kyle. $250 for 3 years of run time is pretty damn good if you ask me. Yeah, you may be better off in the long run going ahead and switching to the turbo block now that you will have time to do it. Keep us posted man.

Well, I swung into the shop today just to hang out for abit and they got some work done on the car. Not loads but hey, anywhere is a start to me right now. They got all the AC/Heater items out of the car and got the Dejon powerhouse Side Mount intercooler put on. I didnt have my good camera so I just snapped a few shots of the SMIC with my phone. It doesnt seem like alot but progress is progress to me on this. The Dejon IC is MUCH larger than the old factory IC. A great improvment

Is the factory plastic that ducts the IC reused, or will something need to be fabricated?

The factory peices were pretty messed up so I believe we will use something along the lines of the ducts like people use on the brake ducting to force air to the IC. Should fit nicely in the present hole there on the bumper. Maybe open it up a little on the back end to funnel even more air through it. But we'll see on that.

if the car is primarily used for race use, (which i know it is for you tsiboosted) you could probably just take out that plastic dust shield that sits right behind the I/C.

Leaving those in helps with aerodynamics and also helps keep the back side of your sidemount from getting pelted with rocks that your slicks will invariably pick up. I'm actually looking at trying to find some for my car again.

Well, some fine chick wire is the only thing I could think of that would allow enough airflow, and keep some of the bigger rocks out.

TSIBoosted, I just remembered that I have my plastic dust guard with it cut out a bit bigger and some chick wire mesh. It was on the car when it had the Dejon sidemount, but I have since went to a FMIC. If you want it I'll send it to ya.

Thanks Andy and Kyle for the input on it. I was looking at that mysself yesterday thinking of ways to improve; but keep it on there. Like Kyle said, it is good protection for the IC with it on there. And if you have your old one laying around and it is already cut with a wire mesh in place, that would be nice to try out. The wire is probably better for air flow than the plastic and the old plastic gives it a good frame to mount to and and onto the car.

Haha, well thank you. I don’t know what it is, but every time I am on the track I have the time of my life; so anything i can do to help others have that same experience makes me feel better.

Who here has an aftermarket steering wheel and what do you use? There are two autocrosses coming up this weekend and I was hoping to order a steering wheel today. What I want to know is how is the positioning.

This is the wheel I'm getting.

Here is the hub adapter. I believe the Sabelt wheel is a flat dish so by this description below the wheel should be brought back to the stock position, correct?

I'm 6'1" so it would be optimal to be able to move the seat back a bit for better leg position so I think this adapter should help bring the wheel back with me. A bit over 2 inches. Do these three products look like a good combination?

I have a MOMO wheel for my 1g Laser and love it. One of the best upgrades I've done. I also have no power steering and had no problems controlling the car.
