I have a similar story. Underradar will verify, correct or expand as necessary, because he was there.
The legendary Doctor Jack T in Wisconsin builds fire-breathing, mega-horsepower 3000GTs that he typically brings to Road America every year after a long winter build. Jack T has held various quarter mile records, including (help me out here, Jim) a run in the 9s (or low 10s, or something equally amazing). He also fabricates some of the most advanced arrangements of huge turbos, intercoolers, radiators, piping and whatnot. Ya just stand in front of his engine bay and gape at the engineering ingenuity on display.
I only wish he had turned his attention to DSMs...but I digress.
Anyway, Jack T has a habit of finishing things at the last microsecond before the Road America events, so sometimes the first time he actually starts the car after the winter build is at the track. Consequently, he's been known to do five laps before something breaks and he's back on the trailer.
One year he showed up, did his five laps, and retired in a cloud of smoke--because a rat had crawled into the turbo piping while it was sitting in a pile of parts in the garage, and got assembled into the motor! Apparently, it got sucked into the turbo on startup, which put paid to the turbo.
Gotta watch those mice and rats in the winter. They get into everything! They also tend to eat wires, insulation, seat cushions and so on.

Just for an update for those who dont know.....
Coming onto the straightaway on VIR I misshifted what was supposed to be a 3rd to 4th, to a 3rd to 2nd at redline. Saw about 10,000 rpm. Pulled the head, all intake valves destroyed and some minor scoring on the cylinder walls. So she is down for a little while. Will have progress pics and someone caught my misshift on video so ill post it as soon as I get it and you can hear how badass and depressing that 10,000rpm sounds....

Havent pulled the transmission yet. Have only gotten a couple hours in, she is 2 hours away from me in my parent's garage, (im in college) so as soon as I have time to go back up ill be taking care of it. Now decisions about what to do in terms of engine build and head rebuild.

Your bottom end it ok right? I'd maybe pickup the Brian Crower valvetrain kit. I'd also get some ARP's if you dont already. As for Head Gasket, I like using the stock felpro head gasket. It's like a fail-safe by creating a weak-link and if something bad happens, hopefully its just the HG that fail and not the pistons or anything worse.

10.41 @ 138.76 to the best of my knowledge, without actually asking him.
True story. Nonetheless, that isn't even the weirdest one.

That exact car also goes mid 2:30's at Road America. As I've said, R.A. rewards lag.
The latest in the saga is: Some road debris (yes, it also see's significant street duty) broke off the oil filter shortly after the fall MFBA track day. Scrap one more V6. That boy got some odd luck.

Not a dsm, but a quick update on my project VR4. I bought a VR4 last summer so I can continue to daily drive my Stealth. It was a true barnfind that I picked up very cheap, but it needs a LOT of work. However, I did not have a productive winter. At first I said I was just taking a break after several years of constant wrenching. I started going to a gym 4-5 days a week, spending time with my wife, lavishing her with vacations, and quietly banking brownie points for the upcoming race season. Well now it's only a few weeks away till the annual Road America event and I have no VR4. Lots of work left too. It might be done by July. When is the Hastings event I promised to go to?

That really sucks. That was a stroked motor too, wasn't it.
Express my condolences.
p.s. You and Jack need to post on 3STech.org All the smart 3S guys moved over there and for some reason they let me in. There's lots of information sharing and group problem solving. And if nothing else we're sourcing cheaper/better parts.

Hopefully your wife is not secretly an active member on tuners here.
I also was planning on taking a break over the winter and advance my career by picking up a few certifications. I bought the books/DVD’s, started reading/watching them, and then found the talon which I have today. I really have only put about a months worth of work into her, but I’ve been busy helping friends out getting their cars ready for the summer. Speaking of summer, its nearly here, 40 degrees out (Fahrenheit), and I love it!!!

40 ???? Summer, are you kidding me Andy ??? Its 70 and sunny here. Kati and I will be staying at the beach this weekend with her parents. Sorry, have to rub it in man
You need to come back to Florida and help me wrench on my car when all the parts come in and get it ready for next season.

Sounds good!!
I am acctually planning (trying to anyways) to make an open track day at Road Atlanta. Me and a few others from the area here were thinking of doing a road trip with our cars for a few days and hitting up a lapping day or something. I'll have to let ya know when that is and we'll have to play some cat and mouse.
How are things going with your 2g tsiboosted???
