Well that's a problem you can fix pretty easily - just move somewhere better suited for high performance cars!

If/when you talk to Todd at TCE tell him we sent you. He's been great to the DSM crowd.

Winter finally rolled around here in Texas (yes it was 80 degrees out side). Crawled into the garage and finally got cracking on a few upgrades. Also discovered the source of my 'mystery' noise after my last event in Feb. The wheel bearing had no play at lunch Sun. when I changed pads to finish my last two sessions. After the last session there was a 'clunking' sound when I would load the drive train. Close call...Anyone know of stronger wheel bearings?

They may not make a "stronger" wheel bearing, but new wheel bearings usually do the trick.

Yep replaced both fronts during the change over. I've been through 3 O'Reilly wheel bearing/hub assemblies over the past year an half on the passenger side. This one on the driver side was the original OEM unit with 150K plus miles on it. When OReilly finally tells me I'm not allowed to warranty anymore, I'll probably go OEM again.
Is anyone else wearing out wheel bearings this quickly? I know moving to the 255s and tracking as often as I do isn't going to help the lifespan of these units, but they seem to loosen up after 4-5 weekends.
Also I noticed the SPC arms remove quite a bit of travel due to the design of ball joint adjustment piece. For the mean time I'll be changing the bumpstops on my Konis for longer pieces, but have also thrown around the idea for a new setup. On one hand I've talked to Mr. Mueller and he recommends the JICs as the RRE upper camber plates were not designed for a 2.25 coilover setup and to take the load of a coaxial hat on the bearing. On the other I know there are individuals who have recreated DG's setup using those plates. Or I could always go Ground Control w/ RRE plates. Any input from those tracking their cars?

I have the RRE plates but have not tracked THIS car yet (Jtoby's). Maybe if this snow melts soon I'll be able to let ya know.
I've always used the OEM Wheel bearings. Never really had an issue after replacing them.

Just speculating.
- 2.5" springs
- Were the Konis revalved to handle that high of a spring rate?
The coaxial hat and setup is the part that has me stumped. Is there are spacer between the spherical bearing and the top of the hat? Anyone know where you can get a hat for 2.5" springs that fit a Koni shaft? And will this cause premature wear?

I have yet to tear apart the suspension. I believe the koni sports should handle an 850lb spring rate but probably nothing higher. I may go 750lb, not 100% sure yet. I need to get the rest of the car all completed so I can throw the car on my corner-weighting scales and then decide from there. Currently there are 650lb springs in the front, but i think they need to be a tad bit higher.

We got the FP race manifold on and putting on some new Hawk HP+ brake pads in the front for the fianl round of the Grand Bayou Race Series this weekend. Currently in 3rd place overall in the points, 1 point behind second but unfortunatley, out of reach of the overall title. Hopefully I can throw a win in here and take 2nd out right without having to go to some sort of tie breaker. Should be a great event. Have the awards ceremony after the event as well. There is going to be TV coverage of the event this time around too, pretty kewl to me to get some TV exposure for the series. Will have plenty of pics and hopefully some in car video of some of my runs for you guys too. Trying to figure a good way to get my camera in there here last minute. Fingers crossed on that one though.
After the last event here, it will be time to tear the car down and begin the rebuild for next season. Shooting for a done date of around July sometime. There is an event at Road Atlanta I want to run in so time is already a factor. Lot of changes coming up to the car and some more weight loss for her as well. The done date all swings on how much and what I can get together by then as well.

How are the HP+'s working for you? What kind of braking are you subjecting them to on a given race? Are we talking like 90-50 braking or 130-45 braking?

I'd like to know the kind of wear you get out of those pads, they were horrible on the S2000 I drove last year and didn't even last a season of autocross and were as dusty as the Carbotechs we had before that.

Mine have held up fine on my car so far, although I will agree with the dusty as all get out claims.

My HawkHP+'s on my silver car seem to work just fine, but I never took them on a super high speed (120+mph) track. They did seem to always get me nice wheels dirty, but I was ok with that.

The HP+ pads work great for me on this track and others I have been on. There is not really a section on the track I currently race at that the braking is as drastic as 130-45. But we do go from around 90-35 in a few corners. I dont really use the brakes all that often as it is. Hard anyway....Down the front straight, I do around 120 - 125 and just tap them to settle the front of the car to go through turn 1 at around 110 - 115. Like I said, there is really only 2 spots on the track where I need to get from around 90 - 100 down to 35 - 45. And these Hawk pads get the job done for me quite nicely.
With the HP+ pads, I can get 2 events out of them. 2 events to me though is 2 full practice days with about 2 - 3 hours of track time and 2 actual races with about an hour and 15 minutes of track time. So say on average I can get around 8 1/2 hours of track time on the pads. Now they are GONE when that happens. But to me, 2 full events on 1 set of front pads is VERY nice.
I also run the VIP Garage Centric slotted rotors (gotta get the sponsor plug in) with these pads and this is a great combination for me. SS lines and ATE Super Blue fluid is my setup there.
I see I toook a while to post that and others have chimmed in. So here are some other thoughts on them.
They squeek quite abit until they get up to temp. But that doesnt take long.
They do put off more than average of dust, but I dont care about that. I'm not in a car show here. I need them to stop the car and they do.
As for wear, like I said. I get about 8 hours or so of track time; at the track the series is on, on a set of pads. We are not on the brakes all that much here. And I really dont use the brakes a lot period to be honest with you. I live in boost, need to stay in boost. Brakes just deter that for me.
Now my car is almost completely gutted so the weight of my car is probably much less than others cars as well. Only thing remaining is ac & heating items which will be coming out soon as well. So you have to take that into consideration with wear as well, as I am not stopping as much moving weight as others are.
