So today i took my TB off to clean it. it was a pain to get off. the coolant hoses WOULD NOT come off! i had to cut the suckers in half just to get the TB out of the car. after cleaning the front and back of the throttle plate, i took the isc motor off and wiped off the tip and cleaned out the hole in the TB. i then put the isc motor back on. as for the coolant hoses, they were trash. i had to cut em off the nipples on the TB. i then capped the two nipples on the TB with some silicone caps. then plugged the coolant lines on the block with a piece of hose with a bolt stuck in it.

after getting everything back together. i took a drive to warm her up, and bam! as soon as its warm IDLE SURGE! i let off the gas and it stays at like 1500-1900 rpms. jumping back and forth

now, i saw this on the VFAQ about idle surge:

"An air pocket in the coolant system may also cause an idle surge. On some vehicles, there is a coolant passage in the throttle body. The TB is frequently the highest point in the coolant system and an air pocket may form there. This air pocket may also cause an idle surge so make sure you've properly bled the air from the coolant system before addressing any idle concerns"

does this sound like my problem? i didnt have idle surge before i took the TB off. should i find some hoses to replace the ones i removed? or mabye the ISC motor is messed now? any advice?

You need to completely block off the FIAV, not just cap the coolant passages. Vfaq.com shows you how to do it. You need to be very careful b/c the bolts that hold it on are very tight and easy to strip since they are philips.

If you cant get it off, just replace the hoses you cut.

well, after reviewing the procedure to block off the FIAV. i have decided to put the coolant lines back on. the only problem is i dont know where to get em. im going to look around at the local parts stores, to see if i can find some hose that will work, but the hoses have some serious angels that might be a problem. do the dealers sell these type of prebent hoses? as well as the other collant hoses around the block and such? i want to replace them all because im sure they are all really fatigued and ready to blow.

Yes the dealer sells all the hoses and it's a good idea to replace them including the ones running to the heater core at the firewall.

On a 1G you can replace the hoses to the TB with regular coolant hose from the autoparts store in a pinch but the OEM parts fit much better. Can't say what the deal is on a 2G
