Portland,
I have a 95 GSX, runs drive perfect but its freaking got rust all over the place, well door and all the stuff is fine and motor, but literaly stuff is brakling off from RUST under the car, suspenshin area looks to be rusting prity good. I pulled off the back bumper and every bolt snaped cause of rust. What should I do? Is there people that specialise in fixing rust problems on cars??? Or is there a way I can fix this problem myslef? It would suck to be driving my fully moded GSX and fall through the floor onto the street going 140.

ALL i can think of is to, get a can of that "turns rust into primer" and spray it all. and then maby get a can of that liquid bedliner shit, and spray that all over.

my car came from ohio and the entire underside of the car is covered with a thick rubber like junk. i have been told all ohio cars are like that

but how do you fix the damage that has allready happend from the rust, that will probly stop it btu I still got holes and brital meatle all over.

:D
Well, Kill the rust and then maybe build up the hole with fiber glass or some other type of body filler. And smooth down then cover with spray bed liner.

That's what comes to mind good luck!

yea, my car came from Chicago, wonder if all the cars from there are rusted like this

There's a lot of bad weather there, salt and stuff for bad roads. That probably contributed to the rust. Most cars from Northern states if untreated will show it.

well, unless you want to cut out the metal and weld in new slabs of steel, filling it, and covering is the best you can do.

mabye, weld pieces in to stregnthen it, here and there? i dunno.

I will just think of it as weight reduction, LOL .

but really, if any one here has restored a classic car ever I woudl like your advice, I have seen people take a 1950's hot rod rusted to hell and make it a show car, so there has got to be a way to fix my rust probem

Pf, yeah, you weld in new parts. Much of which, unlike DSMs, is being made new because the market's so broad.
If you have a rusted bolt, you remove it and replace it. If the nut it screws into is rusted, you remove it and replace it. If the sheet metal it's attached to is rusted, you remove it and replace it.

Get the idea?

It takes cubic yards of money.

There's really not so much "repairing" of rust, it's more "replacing".

Perhaps you should remove the 710 cap, and replace the car.

Take it from a person from Canada where 6 months of the year there is salt on the roads to prevent freezing. Rust is like cancer. Once it has spread like your car has, it is unstoppable. I hate to say this but you may be better off cleaning it and selling the car.

But I know there is a fix for it, look at thesde people fixing up old 40s' and 50's classic cars. They start with one huge chunk of rust and end up with a rust free car.

you could strip it down to the unibody frame and have it acid dipped. that's the best way that I'm aware of to handle rust. otherwise you'll have to sandblast, wirewheel and remove any rusty areas. if its to the point where hole are forming then you will have to either weld in a new panel or fill them with body filler.
A guy in my body class back in college had an old mustang that he was repainting. looking at the car you wouldn't think that there was much rust, but once we started pulling things apart it turned into a HUGE project. We had to replace a large section of floorboard on the driver's side. Rust is a bi***, its gets into every little spot possible. Good luck!

Yeh, and I told you about it. Try reading the post.

jesus.

Have any of you guys heard of this thing they have now. Its a box that you ground to the chassis and it charges it with static electricity or something along those lines and then the metal wont rust. I saw them install one on a hotrod on Horspower TV.

Another canadian's input...

Rust IS cancer, cars are just easier to kill than our immune systems. :D

I'm asking for a dremel this Christmas so i can take all the parts off, sand them and paint... i know i will have to rebuild the engine next year so i can wait till then to do the whole frame, i will take off ALL the panels and ALL the parts and fight it as much as possible. In the meantime, I'm going to go have it rustproofed with the extreme protection. about 90$ American, but worth it...

To discribe it, I have a small amount of rust on the tip of the drivers door, and the usual places such as behind the headlights and above the bumper... gas tank opening is starting to show signs of rust as well. worst places are the lights and the pieces closest to the front... I have maybe 45 hours of work to do, but I have owned other cars that had little rust, drove them for one year and it made me want to cry. It spreads FAST so do something about it NOW.:thumb:

Buy some por 15 and just paint that stuff all over your car where rust is that is. www.por15.com it worked on my hood. alos heres some steps to prevent rust these were obviously not doen by previous owners who lvied in snowy cities.

1. wash ur car every week and thurolly (sp) dry it. and dont forgot to wash the underbody too all that salt on the road ends up under your car and salt makes rust fast so make sure to always wash the underbody too. if you follow these steps your car will be as rust free as mine. and there not complicated steps just wash ur damn car. i live in mich and my car has no rust on the underbody.

I don't get how por15 works. It says that it just coats the rust?? It doesn't seem to get rid of it? Also, is it like a real paint? or can you have to paint over it?

Coming from a guy who has restored a old car in the past. The only way to get rid of rust is to grind it, sand it, or cut it right out.. and then recoat the bare metal surface. And you have to make sure you get all of it. Very expensive and time consuming!
Simply put, rust isn't something on the metal of your car. It IS the metal of your car oxidizing..once it is rusted there's no turning it back.. you need to replace stuff. I second the POR-15.. you wont get rid of the rust you have, but you'll make sure that no more rust can occur, and it'll leave a nice finnish.

yea por-15 goes over the rust to make the metal stronger and to stop it from spreading. and yes you can paint over por-15. but if your car is black you wont have too.

so if I leave the rust how it is and just coat it with this stuff I will be fine and not have to worrie about it rusting any more then it already is???
