Pensacola,
I have searched, and read, can't find anything too similar to my problem. I have a 99GST w/ 89k. I reciently got the car ~1 month ago. My understanding is the clutch was replaced ~3-4k miles ago. I find it hard to shift into 1st and 3rd. It doesn't really matter if I'm gunning it, or shifting at a low speed, it is almost always difficult to shift into 1st and 3rd. Occasionally it will go into 1st with no problems, but usually it's really notchy. According to this http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1159&highlight=hard+shifting it's due to "The gears on our cars just suck". Now for the odd part- With the car turned off, it shifts like a champ - smooth, no problems at all. It is very easy to shift into any gear. With the clutch in, or out, it goes in every gear very easily. Immediately when I start the car, it goes right back to being difficult. Is there something I don't know about like perhaps clutch fluid or something that is pumped in when the car is started? What is the difference (clutch/tranny wise) between the car being on or off? Thanks!

Could be bad scyncros. Does it every pop out of gear? Try switching trasnmission fluids to BG Scyncroshift and see it that helps as well.

It's never popped out of gear on me. I've read about that Scyncroshift before - I'll definitely try it. Another thing - because I recently bought the car, it came with a little warranty - 3mo. 3k mi. I'm still within it. I brought the car to the dealer and they blamed it on the new clutch. I knew that I shouldn't have told them about the new clutch. :( It engages right off the floor - like maybe 1 - 1.5 inches... Way earlier than I'm used to. They said it was the problem and that the clutch plate wasn't shaved or something? That doesn't explain why it's OK with the car off....

They probably mean the step height of the flywheel might not be in spec.

have the tech's bleed your system and adjust your master cylinder rod. also get some gm syncromesh or pennzoil syn from autozone, same thing A LOT cheaper.
