Heres what i have:1992 talon tsi that i JUST REBUILT THE ENGINE IN AND INSTALLED A NEW CLUTCH. I am having lots of problems and cant seem to find out what is wrong. The biggest problem is the tranny. When i am at a COMPLETE STOP I can shift into first no problem, when i shift to second it grinds, and if i dont hold pressure on the shifter it WILL POP OUT OF 2nd ONLY. When i am moving i CANNOT DOWNSHIFT FROM 3rd into second without a FIRM HARD SHIFT AND IT STILL WILL GRIND A LITTLE, DOWNSHIFTING FROM 2nd TO 1st is near IMPOSSIBLE UNLESS YOUR TOTALY STOPPED. WHAT CAN THIS BE? Is it the SYNCROS OR CAN I JUST ADJUST MY CLUTCH PEDEL. THe pedel does have a good amount of free play in it and feels like it is very soft and easy to push in without a lot of effort. HOW CAN I ADJUST IT TO MAKE IT FEEL BETTER, OR SHOULd I BLEED IT, I read the Haynes manual and it says to undo the locknut on the cruise control switch and screw that out more, but that is not really gonna help since when i look under the dash on the right i see a lot of free movement in the rod that connects to the pedal assembly. ANY INFO ON WHAT AND HOW TO DO IT IS REALLY APRECIATED, I AM NEW TO DSM CARS.
Thanks
Tom

-I think your tranny need new syncros, as for the movements on the rod under the dash, try adjusting the rod on the master cylinder, if that doesn't work, then check this .

ya, i am gonna try to bleed it then adjust it. Is there a form on how to adjust the linkage, AND HOW MUCH WOULD IT COST FOR ME TO FIX MY TRANNY, SHOULD I ACTUALLY DO SYNCROS OR IS IT JUST THE BLOCKING RINGS, I never heard of syncros going bad if you can still get it in gear, wouldnt it be the blocking rings.
Tom

How long has it been since a tranny fluid change. Consider that first, it's the easiest on the wallet.

SYNCHROS OR THE BLOCKER RINGS BEFORE THEM, I HAVE SEEN IN A LOT OF TRANNYS THE BLOCKER RINGS FAILING, CAUSING THE SAME THING
