Well my room mate bought my other room mate a Im sorry but a POS Eclispe(due to previous owners failure to maintance) with the gifted persons money. I come from the land of Jeeps and Toyotas so forgive me for any ignorance.

First start up it ran at 2800RPMs so I pulled the screw out to 800RPMs and it stalled out. So Im assuming a open EGR Valve. Bumped the screw back in to a slightly steady idle at 1800RPMs.

My main question is could the EGR Valve being stuck partially open cause the car to have extremely poor acceleration?
When I say poor I mean WOT feels like 1/8th throttle. Also the exhaust puffs a bit which might be the EGR Valve or poor spark plugs. Im going to be getting around to basic tuneup for him tomorrow since today we just Seafoamed the hell out of the engine to free up any crud. Just trying to collect some extra info so I can plan out my day.

I wouldn't think th egr would affect the acceleration. I had an 86 honda accord that had a bad egr valve and it had no affect on the acceleration. The only thing it affected was the gas mileage really. it might make the idle crappy though.

I'm a little confused. What "screw" did you adjust? The BISS screw? If so, that has nothing to do with your EGR system. And if the EGR system is anything like the 4G63 EGR system, the valve stays closed when not in use. This senario IMO doesn't point to the EGR valve.

Explain why again you believe the EGR valve is the souce of your troubles?

Nevermind. Found the problem. Toasted curcuit board YUM!

Yes I mean BISS.

Did a reset today of the ECU and cleared up a few problems, threw a CEL which if its a OBDI it should go away in 50 on/offs, still going to pull the codes if any. Thing just needs some parts from RadioShack and a few things from Walgreens and AutoZone and it should be back to a halfway decent car.

Reason I believe the EGR is when you push it in it stalls, and if you give it gas while pushed open and then close it and let go of the gas it should return to normal idle. This one returns to a rouch idle which makes me believe something is inside the EGR Valve. One reason Im toothbrushing the hell out of the TB this weekend.
